Junior5 asked this question on 5/28/2000:
I have a 14ft aluminum flat bottom john boat and I would like to build a small deck on the front and I have a Minn Kota trolling motor I would like to mount on the front but because of the angle of the boat I can't figure out how to mount it. Do they make adapters for that or do you have any suggestions on how I can mount the trolling motor on the front? Thanks

They do make adapters for this type of thing, but I always found it much easier to attach the trolling motor to the front deck that I built. The biggest reason for this was to enable me to take the trolling motor off the boat for easier transport. Once the deck is built, measure the distance from the top of the bow of the boat to the newly built front deck. Then, place a piece of wood (2x4, 3x4, 4x4, etc.) on the deck and put the trolling motor mount on top of the wood block. If the trolling motor now sits level and extends slightly out over the bow, drill the holes through the wood block and the deck and use Carriage Bolts and wing nuts, with lock washers to secure the motor bracket. This has always worked well for me, even with a 54# thrust trolling motor. If you would rather opt for a manufactured mount, contact Alumacraft Boat Company. They have an excellent aluminum mount that you can have welded to the front deck of the boat. Good luck, Charlie.........
