Is there a rule of etiquette for naming a boat? Where does the home port go in relation to the boat name or can they be separate? For instance, putting the name on both sides and the home port on the back or putting the home port on the sides with the name. Thanks! Red

There are some rules for this one. Is the boat registered?? Is the boat surveyed?? how large a craft is it?? rule of thumb....... name in BOTH sides and stern. Homeport on stern. names of vessel on ALL emergency equip, liferafts, rings, floats etcetc CaptJohn

OK, the boat is a 27 ft sport fisherman (Angler) with a fly bridge and cuddy cabin. Don't know about surveyed. Has registration. Has lg swim platform on the stern, so stern only has maybe 8 inches high by the width to put info on. Probably just has room for home port on the stern. Would you put home port as well as the name on both sides? or just the name and home port on the back. Don't want to junk up the boat with too much writing all over it, you know? :) Thanks.
CaptJohn gave this response on 5/11/2000:
OK, thats not a surveyed boat. You don't NEED a home port, unless you want to muck it up with a bunch of writing. The name would traditionally , goes on both sides,. Preferably toward the aft. I hope I've been of some help.\ CaptJohn
