what causes a boat motor to run hot and blow out white smoke
cetaylor gave this response on 5/10/2000:
Are you sure that it is white smoke or could it be steam? White smoke normally means too much oil in the fuel mixture, while steam indicates water getting into the cylinder. If the engine is running hot, it is probably steam. In that event, you might want to invest in a simple compression tester. This device, fitted into the spark plug opening, will give you an idea of the compression in each cylinder. All cylinders should be about equal. If one is a lot less, then you have a problem with that cylinder. The problem could be as simple as a head gasket or as complicated as a break in the cylinder wall. Good luck.
