I am looking for info on the Mercury Optimax 200hp motor., How reliabile is it and how good is it on fuel at 100 rpm or less?

Sammy:Mercury has been producing quality motors for many years. They are all reliable...what you do is pay your money and go for the one you want. Dont understand your need for gas consumption at 100 rpm.Probably the motor wouldnt stay running at these revolutions. The rule of thumb for gas consumption on a big motor pushing a planing hull is 1 mile per gallon.Take into consideration the condition of the sea, weight of the boat {people, passengers, fuel gear},how fast you are running & if your bottom is clean. All these will factor in to your actual mpg. Use your owners manual for optimum throttle settings.Trim the hull .You will then get the results you are looking for. Thanks for the question.icarius31 Id appreciate it if you would rate my reply.
