During a sting operation I was cited for selling liquor to a minor in Omaha, Nebraska and received a citation. I have only been a bartender for 3 months and there were no customers in the steakhouse restaurant lounge in the past 2 hours and I have not worked in the restaurant in the past 2 weeks. I asked the person for some ID, but had difficulty reading it, cause I was not feeling well that night and my eyes were blurry from a sinus infection I have been suffering all week. I served the drink and thought about it the ID at the time I was serving the drink, but it was already too late. It was a sting operation and I was not on my toes. This is my first offense and I have walked out on the job that night, cause I have looked very hard for such an establishment like this where all we ever have in there is older couples and I don't deal with younger bars and/or convenient stores. What am I looking at as far as fines, jail, etc...Do I need a lawyer? I realize this was an oversight on my part, but we always check IDs. I guess the date on the ID threw me off. I am only trying to make some part-time money. I guess I will look for another field, but I don't know how to plead this come the court date. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated GREATLY.
