Anonymous asked this question on 4/26/2000:
Where do burglars get they're burglary tools?
Poe gave this response on 5/8/2000:
They are usually obtained illegally, of course, and many states have laws against possessing such tools, unless the person in possession of them is licensed for their use, i.e, locksmiths, mechanics, etc. In most states, having possession of the device called a "slim jim" is illegal. This tool is used to open car doors. Of course locksmiths have lock picks, etc. In many states, merely stealing someone's house keys or car keys will net you an attempted theft charge of some sort, as they contend that if you stole the keys, it was because you intended further theft. Many people get their burglary tools under the table from some of the above listed sources. Hope this has helped answer your question.
