why do people commit crimes?
pedromuerte gave this response on 4/21/2000:
I am working in a maximum security prison for youth in Amsterdam in Holland. My opinion is that boys and girls who commit crimes mostly had a very bad childhood. They often got very little affection from there parents and live in bad neighbourhoods. However, that's no excuse for what they did. I think they have a choice in life. At any stage they have a possibility to change their live into a more acceptable way. They have to be locked up some time, just to protect society. It is a pity that in prison they grow worse in stead of better, but the time they are in prison at least they can not rob anybody. I know I am equal with the persons I have to guard. The only thing that seperates us are the oppurtunities we had in life. I have a lot of collegeas who find themselves better then the inmates. How stupid this is! All people are equal!
