How many people return to using drugs after being rehabilitated? In Prison? and voluntarily in society?
Poe gave this response on 3/22/2000:
Many factors influence an individual's return to drugs, however, the relapse rate is overall, somewhere between 75 to 85%. Drug addiction is not something that a person is rehabilitated from. That connotates and end to the process, and with drug addiction, the process is always ongoing, because there is no cure, atleast not yet anyway, but I have hope. Certain changes must be made, not only in the individual himself, but in his lifestyle as well. this may mean ending contact with drug abusing friends and family; not hanging out at the same places, going to 12 step meetings regularly, etc. Individuals who are unable to make these changes stand a greater chance of relapse because if nothing changes, then nothing changes! Positive support and encouragement is also crucial. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
