In a recent conversation with the LDS bishop of the Hollywood Ward in Los Angeles, I was advised that not one member (in good standing) of the Mormon Church died in the World Trade Center collapse on 9-11-2001 and that there were at least 48 church members known to have worked in both towers of the WTC.
In a remarkable act of grace, the Bishop Gonzalez told me, God made sure that the members were directed elsewhere before the tragic events occurred... in one instance, a church elder was held up in traffic causing him to be late for work and arriving within a mile of the Trade Center at the very moment the first airliner hit the tower.
I asked him where he got his information - he said it came by an internal memo sent to all church bishops and Stake Presidents (regional church leaders that have authority over the bishops in their area) by President Hinckley in SLC, who instructed the leaders to inform the priesthood (male members) of this miraculous event.
Why was this information never revealed to the public-at-large?
Because the General Authorities in Salt Lake City deemed it so, and their instructions are sacred and not to be questioned by the membership, or be faced with accusations of apostasy against the church (an ex-communicable offense).
Hmm...this smacks of the same belief forwarded by Palestinian organizations who claim the 9-11 terrorist attacks were the work of the Jewish Zionists, since "no Jews were on the ill-fated planes or at work in the World Trade Center that day."
Just another fine example of a destructive cult operation in the guise of religion.
