Arthur C. Clarke was on Phoenix's KFYI radio tonight. I called in and asked which other sci-fi writers he hung out with, and if he knew L. Ron Hubbard in particular. He said that he did know Hubbard. He said Hubbard was a good writer. Here's the quote you can use...
