To Gillian Caldwell of Witness:
I was sorry to read that you attended the Scientology sponsored 'Youth for Human Rights Day.'
This is equivalent of attending a Martin Luther King event hosted by the KKK. I'm not exaggerating. Anyone can look up Scientology's 50 year history of fraud and human rights abuse. They still have prison camps for recalcitrant members, and there are literally hundreds of damaged souls still trying to get their lives back after years of coercive mental conditioning.
I'm not surprised that you chose to participate. Scientology's front groups benefit from very skilled public relations. They form organizations which reflect society's 'hot buttons,' and use them for recruitment and good PR. You've fallen for this. Did they tell you about their literacy program? The Volunteer Ministers? Their drug "rehab" program, Narconon? Criminal outreach program Criminon? Did they mention the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Program? How about the Study Tech?
Ms. Caldwell, had anyone taken the time to actually look beyond the glossy brochures and glowing testimonials (from other front groups spawned by Scientology for just this purpose) they would have found that most of these positive sounding programs are inflated with nothing more than hot air from L. Ron Hubbard!
I am serious, get someone to do some research on this. Scientology continues to abuse the rights of its members and critics to this day! It is a wolf in sheep's clothing, which as recently as two weeks ago launched an attack on my right to speak out against them by distributing libellous fliers throughout my neighborhood.
You need to look at this Youth for Human Rights in the proper context. Just because they appear to reflect your values on the surface doesn't mean they are sincere. If they were, people would be able to criticise them without fear. People would be able to leave without ripping their families apart.
Scientology has a history of using legitimate groups to enhance its own dubious image. Please don't continue to be one of their puppets.

"Imagine a church so dangerous, you must sign a release form before you can receive its "spiritual assistance." This assistance might involve holding you against your will for an indefinite period, isolating you from friends and family, and denying you access to appropriate medical care. You will of course be billed for this treatment - assuming you survive it. If not, the release form absolves your caretakers of all responsibility for your suffering and death.
Welcome to the Church of Scientology."
