THE FREEDOM of Information Act -- both the federal and state versions -- is a valuable part of democracy, letting people dig out hidden government records. But at least one nut uses the law idiotically.
A Utah woman claims she was born at a secret government compound, the daughter of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, and that she was married to another Scientology leader -- but the government framed him for her murder and is holding him at an unknown prison.
The Salt Lake Tribune says she has filed thousands of FOIA demands for records about her birth and the murder case - including a federal court suit in West Virginia -- and she refuses to believe responses saying no such records exist.
