In the Golden Raspberry Foundation's twenty-one year history of dishonoring the worst in filmmaking, Showgirls director Paul Verhoeven was the only recipient to ever physically accept the "Razzie Award." That is until Sunday, March 25, when Raspberry Foundation founder John Wilson presented the "worst screenplay"
award to the good-humored original writer of Battlefield Earth, JD Shapiro, on the Comedy World Radio Network-syndicated show, "Drastic Radio with Mark Ebner." In an interview with journalist/host Ebner, Shapiro divulged that falling star John Travolta told him that his first draft (for arguably the worst film ever made) was "the Schindler's List of science fiction." Ebner responded, "Does that mean Travolta thought it was the feel good movie about Man-Animals?" The spirited banter continued until head raspberry Wilson presented Shapiro the handmade statuette, street value $2.49. Writer Shapiro (Robin Hood: Men In Tights) thanked the Foundation and his co-writer Corey Mandel for keeping his name off the final credits. <end>
