Allow the cynical, overly-Objectivist part of my brain to speak momentarily:

The thing is, if either Dubya or his dad *really* wanted to get rid of Hussein, they could have. Let's face it... Hussein could have 'slipped in the shower', choked on a piece of mutton, lost control of his private car, or some other such 'mishap', courtesy of the CIA. Badda bing, badda bang, over and done with.

Why hasn't he? The federal government learned from George Orwell that it's always nice to have a good solid Hate Figure around. Khomeini, Quaddafi, Hussein, Drugs, Al Queda, Communism, Boat People, Illegal Immigrants, the list goes on.... Objects of the Five Minute Hate, depending on who was making the most noise, decreasing property values, or disturbing our comfort. And while everyone is gathered at their TVs for the daily Hate, Dubya can do whatever the fuck he feels like with the country.

I'd like to think the spies this country spends billions of dollars on are capable of pulling off one simple assasination. If our government had any REAL interest of dumping Hussein, we would've a long time ago.
