Canton Journal Letter: Attack is typical
Thursday, November 14, 2002
To The Editor:
Jon von Gunten's attack on Bill Thibeault is typical of the malicious blather churned out by the Church of Scientology's propaganda machine. Bill Thibeault was very right in casting a suspicious eye on the recent 'protest' at the Judge Rotenberg Center and he rendered a community service in uncovering the truth that the notorious 'church' of Scientology was behind this protest.
It is a sad truth that in the U.S. almost anybody can call almost anything a 'religion' and can quite easily get tax-exempt status from the IRS. I was a member of Scientology when founder, L. Ron Hubbard had an epiphany and realized that he could get out of paying taxes by declaring his Scientology-Dianetics concoction a religion. We scientologists were instructed to wear clerical collars and to call ourselves ministers so that the public would perceive us as a real 'church.' A 20 minute 'Ordination' course was thrown together and after this and paying $200, there we were...ministers and 'parishioners' in the Church of Scientology. It was a farce then that we all had a lot of fun with but it is a dangerous con now.
The CCHR or Citizens Commission on Human Rights is one of many Scientology front groups. Posing under an umbrella of religion the CCHR has a devious and destructive agenda. It operates in the main covertly and it's function is to set up covert attacks on the Psychiatric profession and the Pharmaceutical industry. The CCHR distributes very rabid literature full of lies and distortions about Psychiatry and sneaks around the country meddling with Psychiatric facilities and treatment.
I was still a Scientology member when L. Ron Hubbard announced that he had discovered that cause of all human problems, mental and physical. Hubbard reveals, on very secret and expensive courses, that all humans have clusters of alien spirits attached them and these alien spirits (called Body Thetans by Hubbard) can only be removed with his 'Golden Technology. Hubbard further declared that Scientology would take over the field of mental health and would 'clear' this planet of its insanity.
One may laugh at this as absurd but these are very determined and well financed fanatics who believe in it. Scientology's CCHR has used tax-exempt funds in elaborate campaigns to malign the Eli Lilly Co. and its Prozac product and the Novartis Co. and it's Ritalin product. This has proved very costly to these companies.
Scientology is a dangerous group with a world domination agenda. A Chicago man who took his own life last year is just one of many people who have been bankrupted and driven mad from involvement with Scientology. Ominously, recent reports from Europe stated that Scientology agents in Germany were attempting to make deals with an Islamic extremist group there.
Detailed accounts of Scientology's front groups and subversive activities is available on the internet at these sites; www.lermanet.com & www.xenu.net.
