I am not a lawyer but I believe the cult claims, and can only legally claim, to handle psychosomatic illness - illness created in the mind alone. It is illegal in the absence of official approval, to claim to help diagnose, treat, cure or prevent physical illness. In addition, the cult was explicitly told at the end of a lengthy court case which pit the US vs the E-Meter device, that they can not claim it helps to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent physical illness.

The cult's once-secret NOTs 22 document, shows how the cult tries to get around this. The cult claims that virtually ALL illness is psychosomatic, and therefore addressable by cult processing via auditing and the E-Meter.

To understand it all - it gets a little complicated. Here is my understanding, but if there are any flaws in the theology I'm relating, I hope people who know more about it will straighten me out.

You are not an Earthling. You are an immortal alien being with godlike powers over matter, energy, space and time. Long ago, on your home world, you were called in for a tax audit. It was a trick! The ruler of our confederation of planets, named Xenu, grabbed us, kidnapped us, froze us, packed us up in boxes by the hundreds of billions, loaded us into space planes, and brought us here to Earth. Xenu had us "chained"

to volcanos using electronic ribbons, then he dropped H-Bombs in the volcanos. Though immortal, our incorporeal beings dropped our vaporized bodies, got rocked, got zapped, got so completely zonked out by the electronics and explosions that we were ripe for mind control. Xenu showed us 3D movies for weeks on end, ala "A Clockwork Orange." Xenu made us forget who we are, he made us think we are mortal, with short 70 year lifespans, that we need to get sick, die, pay federal taxes. This ALIEN MIND IMPLANT is called "R6" by the cult. It's why we think we are human instead of the godlike aliens we really are.

L. Ron Hubbard learned these facts, and unraveled the mystery. His cult is Scientology, and Scientology can help us with this problem. It clears our minds, makes them less reactive to the ALIEN MIND IMPLANT, and eventually gets around to telling the story I just related - once you've paid enough in time and cash value. And, there's more to the story.

You're infested. Xenu brought hundreds of billions of us here. You, me, everyone. And we have come to stick to these human bodies that were here on Earth, and we think they are US, when in fact we are incorporeal immortal beings from one of the other 76 nearby planets in the confederation. We aren't natives of this desert prison planet. But there are only a few billion human bodies alive, where are the other hundreds of billions? Well, Xenu zapped all of us with the ALIEN MIND IMPLANT, but some of us were more zonked than others. We "thetans" are sort of sticky, and tend to cluster together. You and I are sort of the "head"

thetan in these meat bodies of ours, but there are hundreds (at least!) of thetans in our bodies. These poor guys, these "body thetans" known as "BT"s, are so deluded they think they are objects, body parts such our livers and stomachs, or even thoughts. And these BTs of ours affect us.

Scientology starts by clearing you of mindless reactions to R6 and "engrams" which are caused by traumatic events in your life (and your earlier lives.) But once you are "Clear" you must now start getting rid of those BTs, because they are also deluded and they affect you.

NOTs 22 explains one way they can affect you. "When a dormant BT wakes up it acquires mass." Some of the BTs inside you are still zonked, "sleeping" so to speak. Paid cult auditing with an E-Meter can wake these guys up, as can other things. NOTs 22 says when a BT wakes up it acquires mass. This is physical mass. Other documents say a person can gain or lose as much as thirty pounds of mass from BTs under controlled conditions. But here in NOTs 22, it explains that the mass can cause physical illness. The mass can, for example, impinge on nerves, blocking them. In NOTs 22, it says it can cause such physical diseases as deafness, blindness, and catatonia. Other documents call everything from allergies to cancer to leukemia psychosomatic, and NOTs 22 shows us that it is theALIEN MIND IMPLANTS and the ALIEN BEINGS INFESTING US - specifically, their thoughts - that cause these diseases.

Holy cow! That "permanent" nerve blindness, that deafness, that catatonia, those other physical diseases are really psychosomatic!

Caused by thoughts alone! Specifically, the thoughts of the ALIEN BEINGS infesting us! Oh my gosh, what can be done!

Scientology can help you with that. Scientology knows how to deal with psychosomatic illness, and luckily, just about every physical illness short of being hit by a truck turns out to be psychosomatic. You need a little reasonably priced E-Meter auditing.

NOTs 22 shows how the cult can diagnose, treat, cure, and prevent physical illness, while claiming for the law's benefit that it only claims to deal with psychosomatic problems.

NOTs 34 is what I like to consider a companion document. It shows the steps an auditor takes to handle a physical condition. It explains how to exorcize the ALIEN BEINGS infesting you in order to diagnose, treat, cure, and prevent "physical conditions."
