Trav, you seem to have rather a lot of issues with psychiatrists. Now of course, you have every right not to like psychs. However, I find your continued psych critisisms quite ironic, given the Co$'s inablility to tolerate any form of critisism of itself, Elron Hubbard, or the load of pseudo-scientific quackery that pervades the whole organization.
Quite frankly i'd tend to agree that society is being drastically over-medicated. Unlike you however I tend not to view this as some form of evil conspiracy on the part of psychiatrists. The sheer numbers of people on anti-depressants, is a symptom, not a cause. ( In my un-medical opinion ) Are you going to tell these people that they are *not* depressed, but are simply victims of a ridiculous plot by the worlds psychatric organizations ?
So I assume we agree on that much, A lot of people are exceedingly miserable. Who's fault is it ? The things people most often seem to get depressed about usually include a few of the following :
Money. Or a lack of it. Society teaches us from birth these days to worship the pursuit of money. No wonder people get so incredibly depressed when they don't have enough. Courtesy of their social conditioning, they feel like failures. Gee, I wonder if $cientology can help here ? Probably not, since $cientology seems to be quite good at liberating people of lots of their hard earned cash. Amounts in the hundreds of thousands no less, a lot of money for people living in a society where most people don't own their own home. Strike one against $cientology.I'm sure you can counter my arguments, but I doubt you'll even bother to cook up an illogical argument to counter my mostly logical argument.Relationships. This one is pretty obvious. People have always gotten depressed about relationships or their lack of them.
Society is becoming more and more faceless, families are collapsing, people are becoming detached, preferring to hide behind their computer screens. Things are not getting better here. Maybe here is an area where $cientology can help ?
Unfortunately not it seems. Active $cienotlogists are encouraged by the church to not associate with non-$cieno's, even family members. Gee this is really healthy. And people tend to find that their new "friends" are quite likely to turn on them, should they start questioning their "faith". Strike two against $cientology.
Helplessness. People don't feel like they are in control of their lives. No suprise here either. People feel trapped, by their social situation, employment prospects, past, and a whole host of other things. Again, I doubt $cientology has much to offer. Last time I checked, joining a cult, tended to involved signing a large portion of your judgment to its leader(s), and a sizeable chunk of your income too. Two things that will generally make a person feel much more helpless.
Strike three. Unfortunately $cientology is not yet out.
You'll probably simply resort to simplisitic personality slurs. The wonderful thhing about arguing with people like you is, I know I'm right. And eventually, events will proove that point, in spectacular fashion. You can't hold the delusion for ever. You're income will run out, you'll start realizing how badly you've been conned. Eventually you'll be penniless, and you best $cientologist friends, proboably won't even talk to you. Who are you going to blame ? Society, For not warning you of the dangers of $cientology ? The $cientologists themselves ?
Yourself ?
Best of luck. I feel very sory for anyone mixed up with a group like the Co$, but quite frankly, when It all falls apart you'll only have yourself to blame.
Hmm, this has nothing to do with psychiatrists. Oh well :) I rant :)
