The American cult, whose celebrity followers include John Travolta and Tom Cruise, sent a fax to Ks managing director Chris Kelly asking for a competition to be read out over the public address system at half-time.
It offered copies of L Ron Hubbard's book, Dianetics, and a box of chocolates to the first four fans to correctly name the side which won the FA Cup back in 1950 and phone through to the cult's UK HQ in East Grinstead.
But eagle-eyed match day staff at Kingsmeadow recognised the true nature of the fax, which didn't mention Scientology by name, and so it was never broadcast.
