Yeah, tell you something you don't already know. But please read this.
I didn't get to see the infomercial, I don't even know if it showed where I live, but the synopsis given on the newsgroup was excellent.
I see that they are still lambasting Psychiatry in their films.
Reminds me of a movie that the Co$ showed in the 70s. Some blonde haired woman could not get any kind of progress in her auditing.
Somebody within the Co$ did some research and "voila!". Turns out she had an uncle who was a Psychiatrist. When the auditor got the information he asked her about this uncle, she went catatonic and crushed the E-meter cans like she was Hulk Hogan. The uncle had raped her when she was young. It showed her unconscious after the rape and her skirt was bloodied in the groin area. The uncle then hooked some kind of small electrical box up to her head and spoke in a commanding voice to her, telling her she was not going to remember this and that she would never "see" him and then he jolted her with it and her back arched up. Typical attack and paranoia blaming things on Psychiatrists.
So now they have a Pysch trying to cure paralysis by performing a lobotomy. Why do I find it hard to believe that something like this has ever happened? If somebody were to say to me "Yeah, prove it never happened" the first thing that comes to my mind is our old friend "Baron". Surely if something like this ever happened Baron would have posted it. Hey Baron has it happened, ever?
Hey wait a sec, we have another expert on Psychiatrists and their effects on the human race. Phil Chitester seems to know all about things like this. Hey Phil, has anything like this ever happened?
I'd also like to ask the makers of the infomercial who was going to pay for the surgery? Hospitals generally are not so eager to perform surgery without checking into the payment procedure. Even HMOs are likely to look to see if other solutions are acceptable. Even if the guy had health insurance, the provider sometimes prefers to see the proposal before approval is given. I think this further goes to show just how out of touch the Co$ is with the "Real" reality that exists in the world.
This particular thing seems like it would be a good topic for the editorial page. Not as a letter to an editor, but as an actual editorial written by a syndicated columnist in one of the major newspapers in the country.
