When I left the church, I did so mainly because I couldn't afford the prices. I also did not like them telling me whom I could and couldn't talk to. This was is a symptom of enslavement, not freedom. I know almost all of the LRH materials and can probably quote whole PLs and HCOBS verbatim due to extensive world clearing and post as course supervisor.
After leaving, my attitude when asked about Scientology was, "Try Scientology.
If you like it great.", in other words, I was a positive asset for them out in the world, getting people to at least give it a try which is all you can really ask.
A few years after leaving I found out I had been accused and declared to be an official enemy of Scientology without even being notified based on someone's Knowledge Report. At that point, I said, "Ok, they say I'm their enemy so be it". You might think this is silly, but when you are on Scientology's Enemy List (Declared Suppressive Persons) other Scientologists are told they can "Lie, Cheat, Steal or Destroy" you and Scientology will look the other way.
They call this, "Fair Game". After that, anyone asking about Scientology got the full horror story (at this time alt.religion.scientology had appeared and even I was shocked at the revelations of what Scientology had been up to, but it all added up and fit with what I'd experienced. I also knew many of the people who were posting personally so it all fit). So now, because of some imagined wrong I did to them they created an "opposition terminal".
Scientology's final product is enemies. Leaving one of their courses or auditing without permission is labelled a suppressive act which automatically makes you an enemy. There are a myriad of other idiotic trangressions you can commit for which Scientology will tell its followers you can be "lied to, cheated or destroyed". Another thing you aren't supposed to do is engage another Scientologist in legal action without first checking with the Church.
i.e. They don't want you breaking up their conspiracy by going to outside authorities. Since Scientology's internal justice system is the most corrupt and broken beauraucracy you have ever seen injustice is rampant (the "judges"
are often teenagers with no world experience. It reminds you of the Khmer Rouge kids with machine guns dispensing justice). Scientology's idea of justice is the law of the jungle where bullies rule and the predators eat the young, helpless and disabled. You don't believe me? Then tell me, why does L. Ron Hubbard say in the most important Scientology document, Keeping Scientology Working", "Only the tigers survive, and even they have a tough time".
