CLEARWATER -- The public is invited to help a team determine whether the
Police Department should be reaccredited.
The assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation will examine all aspects of the department's policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.
The department must show the commission that it has maintained compliance with about 260 standards to continue its accredited status.
The Clearwater Police Department originally was accredited by the commission in May 1998. As part of the assessment, agency members and the public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by calling (727) 562-4189 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the department's ability to comply with CFA standards.
The CFA's Web site can be accessed at http://www.flaccreditation.org.
Written comments can be sent to the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation Inc., 3504 Lake Lynda Drive, suite 380, Orlando, FL 32817.
When the commission's assessors are finished with their review, they report to the full commission, which then decides if the department should retain its accredited status.
