"When a person is subjected to coercive persuasion [as in Scientology] without his knowledge or consent ...[he may] develop serious and sometimes irreversible physical and psychiatric disorders, up to and including schizophrenia, self-mutilation, and suicide." --California Supreme Court, United States v. Lee [455 U.S. 252,257,258 (1982)*/ This is from www.lermanet.com home page, about 3/4 of the way down.
One can see on the NG these tendencies, I think many who have been in cults are stil in cults have seen these tendencies sometimes not so faintly in themselves.
the cause is stated above is backed by decades of research and many different studies. Go to www.xenu.com book section and you cn find many books with those references.
One indoctrinated in a cult is led to believe that his, because of his wisdom in chosing to be cult member, is superior to others, and thats not the case.... but the attitude generates an isolation from the rest of life and isolation in its embitterment just ruins the spirit of the person and these regrettable scenes begin to kick in.
As the person ages and the options narrow it can go very bad for the person. Few if any of us are strangers to this path, some of us have managed to get beyond it, some have not been able to get beyond it and are still on the cults tethers.
The way out is to DO YOUR OWN THING, your way, at cause and that is why I write the article entitled 'Life repair for OT's....... '. There is that very do-able option.
The other way is to get rid of the cults programming. Read Hassans book, that will get you over it. You will see the mechanisms used to seize your life away from you. ... and you will be free again. And life will be good, and you will smell the flowers and the love the puppy dogs and spread your wings in the sun, once again.
