As you know there are physical observances of dress, grooming, and ornament signifying moderately devout Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, etc;
there is nothing really like that for Scientologists.
You can however usually tell if people are (covertly) speaking or writing from a scientology viewpoint, or if you are receiving a (covert) scientology recruitment attempt.

Someone who approaches you with clearly insane assertions "the world is going to hell in a handbasket, ever increasing crime, blah blah":
this has been said since 3000 BC and is no more true now than then.
A person in the office who appears to be a total arrogant asshole and bosses sneak with an unjustified high opinion of himself. These are the signs of a religious zealot, not specific to any one religion.
In speech and writing look for the following....
Dianetics or Scientology mentioned as though they were subjects worth serious consideration as sources of knowledge: no outsider does that.
Mention of Hubbard in a positive fashion. If somebody even brings up Hubbard or Scientology it is suspicious, and you should ask where they came across it and what their views are on it. Bits of jargon.
"Beingness, doingness, havingness" and such words. Stilted speech which is always verbing nouns. Your "hat" meaning job duties.
"Data" meaning numerical measurements, used insanely to mean bullshit assertions. "Aberration" unless proceeded by "chromatic--".
"Technology" used to mean bullshit rituals rather than machines.
Insane ranting against mental health doctors.
When approached, look 4 a googly-eyed stare and an attempt at constant unblinking eye contact, which puts people off. Someone who acts like a martian pretending the part of an earth human from a fixed script, who is not quite able to understand others' feelings or adapt their response to them.... enthusiastic new staffers act like this always, long-timers only do it when stressed by unpleasant truths about scientology. Inappropriate affect. Saying "OK" or "uhunh" in a not-quite-human way, to remarks which clearly demand an answer.
Laughter like a Martian pretending to laugh, "harr; harr; harr."
A recruitment attempt may begin with "we are doing a survey" and ask you 2 or 3 oddly non-specific questions like "what do you most want in life" (the clue is that no sensible organisation could conceivably want these answers, or pay people to go round collecting them). Then, or immediately, being asked"do you want to do a free personality test."

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ to combat claims from critics by libel, slander, and innuendo etc upon them. **A** dead-agent is someone who has been successfully intimidated into silence.
When they have made you a target of attack they will call you a "SUPPRESSIVE PERSON", i.e. someone harmful to the scientology scam, although actual lists of SPs are only of expelled former scientologists
The correct usage is simply that you are an "ENEMY". A person named as an enemy is subject to the normal handling for enemies, which is that all scientologists should seek to trick, sue, slander, lie to, rob, or ruin, such people to the point of total destruction.
(Scientologists formerly called this being "FAIR GAME", and the process "FAIR GAMING" an enemy. Hubbard, however, abolished this name -- but said the actual handling remained exactly the same -- because he said it caused bad publicity).
Critics' talk is slightly different: they delight in calling themselves SPs even though they have never been members, and continue to use the phrase fair-game for Scn's handling of enemies.
As to how you would know they counted you as an enemy, and were
subjecting you to the appropriate handling: either you would
notice them attacking you, or someone would let slip that you
were on the enemies list.

Short answer:
>
>Do a google search.
Long answer:
examine the promotional pitch in speech and writing, and also look up their web-site, for scientology words and attitudes.
Front groups pretending to be benevolent or charitable can be found be looking up the site which lists SCIENTOLOGY, FRONT GROUPS.
Businesses run on active scientology lines and paying into the criminal cult are found under W.I.S.E MEMBERS.
