Reached to from this page: http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Freedom_of_speech
Click on the European link and you will see this:
"Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers."
But it is modified by this:
"The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or the rights of others"
So the UK critics protesting the small religious group of Scientology
can do so so long as it does not break the law. But break the law it
does and so they must stop all their anti-small religious group
activities.
I can see a huge expansion for Scientology in the UK with nobody being able to warn people about the errmm... well... ummm... possible "pitfalls".
(Is that OK? I hope I haven't offended anybody by use of the word "pitfalls")
