It is easy to understand what Scientology is about when you consider their teachings in light of Christian thought.
Unlike Christianity where one is taught to believe and rely on a God for direction and happiness, the Scientology teachings make little reference to God in any significant way. Their teachings are mainly based on the idea that we are God like beings, solely responsible for our lives no matter what happens, even if lightening strikes us.
While Scientology hides behind the front of being an applied religion where one can develop their human potential, once joining you soon find your self in the midst of their teachings that you are basically a fallen spirit who is in need of "Scientology auditing" to regain your God like status. My use of the term God like status can be understood if you examine the way a Scientologist thinks.
While I was on staff in a Scietology mission in Losangeles, I was told that we humans have the potential to perform supernatural miracles, One example of this was their teachings on positive thinking, they called it postulating.
We were told that if their was something we wanted, money, a girlfriend, or even parking spot, all we need do is simply decide we would have it and it would be ours. Prayer and guidance from God was never mentioned, it was all designed to make you the God.
One thing I distinctly remember while on staff was the constant need many Scientologist had to keep distracting their selves, I mean for super humans, these guys had a serious addiction to cigarettes, and this use to really baffle me, especially after seeing a picture the leader L Ron Hubbard our founder with a pack of cigarettes, I mean there I was working for about 50 cents an hour in hope of gaining Scientology freedom and enlightenment, and then I see a picture of LRH with a pack of smokes.
I guess this was OK to them, I remember one guest speaker gave a speech at our mission, and while speaking with a cigarette in his hand, he spoke of the foolish people who got cancer from cigarettes because they believed it caused cancer.
Scientology is not about enlilghtment, it's about escape and denial. It's about running from your conscience to play God.
It's a religion designed to help you stay very distracted from the truth that might set you free.
Those of you who are not inclined towards finding God will work over time to maintain the delusion that your one.
I believe Hubbard understood this principal and cashed in on it.
Here is some interesting food for thought. Think about what the Devil told Eve when he tempted her to eat of the forbidden fruit.
Go ahead and eat. God told you not to partake because he knew your eyes would be opened, and you would become like him.
Doesn't Scientology make the same general promise ?
I once heard a man say, If you want to know if their is a God, try to be him for a while, and see what sort of conflict it creates.
Those who can't handle scientology turned to reality.
