So, how come nobody told me my website was mentioned in the Post? Nobody here reads the NY Post?
Good grief, no wonder my stats were up in March. (Somebody find me a copy of this?--I'll pay.)
MAD SCIENTOLOGISTS WARN GOOGLE IT'S CRUISIN' FOR BRUISE New York Post; New York; Mar 22, 2002; LAUREN BARACK;
Abstract:
A Google spokesperson referred to the act in an e-mail response stating the search engine will re-instate links to the Web sites if "they submit a counter-notification to Google."
Famous for its movie star members including John Travolta and Tom Cruise, the Church of Scientology may also soon be known for a policy of censorship.
Google.com removed links to dozens of anti-Scientology Web pages after Scientology lawyers claimed the sites infringed upon copyrighted material.
"Had we not removed these URL's, we would be subject to a claim for copyright infringement, regardless of its merits," read the letter sent by Google to the sites Xenu.net and clambake.org.
The church used the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, enacted in 1998, which in part says a service provider is not liable for copyright infringement as long as it removes any link to information that someone claims is infringing copyright.
A Google spokesperson referred to the act in an e-mail response stating the search engine will re-instate links to the Web sites if "they submit a counter-notification to Google."
But that didn't stop Don Marti, who said he wasn't a Scientologist, from knocking on Google's front door yesterday.
"Imagine if any organization could suppress any Web site critical of it,"
said Marti, the editor-in-chief of a Linux magazine published in Silicon Valley. "If they're not going to provide a link to the sites, then we're going to ask for links to Xenu in person.
As of yesterday, the two Web sites did not appear after a search on Google.
But searches for other popular anti-Scientology sites including scientology-kills.org still appeared.
