Hope Hinde A founding CAN (Cult Awareness Network) member died this sunday, April 15. She was 86 years old and lived in Illinois. Hope was a tireless and totally dedicated anti-cult activist and she often would work in the CAN office as a volunteer. Hope HInde befriended and took into her confidence Jolie Stecart aka Laura.....who worked in the CAN office as a trusted CAN volunteer and was later revealed to be a spy for the Church of Scientology Jolie's treachery was something that was difficult for Hope to understand. After CAN was forced to close Hope worked tirelessly in meetings with members of Congress and educating them to the crimes and frauds comitted by destructive and subversive cults.
Hope HInde was a lovely, cheerful person who was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She went through a frightening period of shameful harassment by scientology agents, Greg Bashaw, Glen Barton and others who would show up at her home and would often harass her by phone.
Bashaw, Barton and the Church of Scientology can celebrate... there is one less 'evil CAN kidnapper and deprogrammer.' There are those of us who hope to keep on the courageous work of this pioneer in the anti-cult field.
