Around three years ago I had a conversation with Bob Minton. The gist of our conversation was that I felt it would be worthwhile to compare passages from the _Brain-Washing_ manual to official, copyrighted works (selected passages) from Hubbard's Dianetics and Scientology texts and tape recorded lectures. Bob agreed.

I told Bob I intended to make and publish such a comparison. I made -- in my mind at least -- a promise to Bob. A promise I have yet to ful- fill. So here begins my promise.

There are many individuals who post and lurk here who have a great familiarity with Hubbard's "source" materials. I hope those of you you who do will play along and contribute to this discussion. In particular, I welcome contributions from those individuals who have tape transcripts of Hubbard's lectures, as I have virtually none of them.

_Brain-Washing_ was published "as a public service" by the American Saint Hill Organization (ASHO). It's part of the Guardian Office's "Intelligence Full Hat pack". I have always had an intense interest in the parallel techniques, philosophies, goals and purposes common to both Hubbard's Scientology/Dianetics and _Brain-Washing_. I once gave Bob a copy of my manual. Prior to giving it to him, I marked over 200 passages I know to be expressed by Hubbard in his *acknowledged* works -- the ones copyrighted in his name.

Here's my first excerpt, from page 3 of _Brain-Washing_:

"A psychopolitician must work hard to produce the maximum chaos in the fields of 'mental healing'. [...]

"To achieve these goals the psychopolitician must crush every 'home- grown' variety of mental healing in America. Actual teachings of Freud, James, Eddy and others amongst your misguided peoples must be swept away. They must be discredited, defamed, arrested, stamped upon even by their own government until their is no credit in them and only Communist- oriented 'healing' remains. You must work until every teacher of psychology unknowingly or knowingly teaches only Communist doctrine under the guise of 'psychology'. You must labor until every doctor and psychiatrist is either a psychopolitician or an unwitting assistant to our aims.

"You must labor until we have dominion over the minds and bodies of every important person in your nation. You must achieve such disrepute for the state of insanity and such authority over its pronouncement that not one statesman so labelled could again be given credence by his people. You must work until suicide arising from mental imbalance is common and calls forth no general investigation or remark."

Several things immediately come to mind.

1) The Code of Honor, point 12: "Never fear to hurt another in a just cause."

2) Scientology's stated goal "to take over entirely the field of mental health". In fact, Scientology has published statements declaring its intent to eradicate psychiatry altogether.

3) Lawsuits brought against psychiatrists and drug manufacturers.

4) Hubbard's insistance that Scientology and Dianetics are the "only workable technology" able to "handle and salvage this planet".

5) The belief that only licensed Scientology and Dianetics "practitioners" should be allowed to diagnose and treat mental illness.

6) The Code of a Sea Org Member which requires its members to dedicate themselves to work to "put ethics in on this planet and the universe".

I could go on. Some of you can too, I am sure.
