Subject: I Applaud You.
Andreas Heldal-Lund:
Through out the past three weeks, I have thorugh your site thoroughly [the site, of course, being http://www.clambake.org]. I have been doing this, because a dear friend of mine, named [Jane], was considering joining the Church of Scientology, to become a counselor there. To be honest, I freaked out on her a bit.
Just to give a bit of background about myself, I had read L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics, and was quite impressed with it. My boyfriend's father had lent me the book, and had asked me to tell him my reaction to it. When I expressed interest in contributing to the Church of Scientology, my boyfriend's father sat me down and gave me a nice half-hour lecture. He had once had a friend who joined, and even considered going to Germany, for the Sea Org. When he had been told to sign a billion year contract, he backed out. Then my mother talked to me, about a friend of hers who had lost her sister due to a "mysterious disappearance" while she served in Sea Org. This was all while I was in 9th grade, only 14 years old. I thought it was all very strange, but never did much research on the Church of Scientology after that.
Anyways, when my friend had told her that, I immediately started talking about Sea Org, how they had slave ships, how they even severely punished children... and she didn't believe a single word of it. On the contrary, she went to the Church of Scientology, located in XXXXXXXXX, and asked them.
Of course, they either had no idea about it, or they were just outright lying to her, I'm not quite sure.
Thus, it became my quest and goal to find all I could to discredit the Church of Scientology. I was TERRIFIED for [Jane]. Which was when I came across your very informative site, http://www.clambake.org. I became addicted, I would read up articles that you had posted, and immediately email the links to her. I even bought Bent Corydon's L. Ron Hubbard: Messiah or Madman?, in the hopes that she would read it. Eventually, she printed out the information, and gave it to her mother, another Scientologist. Her mother, who had never been quite involved to actually know most of the information presented before her, read it and immediately burst into tears, saying how she had almost ruined [Jane]'s life [[Jane]'s ultimate goal was to serve on Sea Org as a top Auditor], and she forbade [Jane] to take the job at the CoS.
This may not mean as much from a young 17 year old girl, but I want to thank you for your site. Your site pretty much SAVED my friend from joining this ultimately corrupted cult. She is still not quite sure that Scientology is as bad as we know it to be, but atleast she is informed. I had rathered that she read all of it and then joined, than to join without any idea as to what she was getting into. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :) -[NAME REVOVED]
P.S.: You have full premission to post this email on your site. In fact, I hope you will. Just please edit out my name, and my friend's name. Thank you for your time, and thank you for your site. :) [END]
