Illness in Scientology HCO PL 26 July 1965 "Release Declaration Restrictions Healing Amendments" by Hubbard says:

"HEALING AMENDED "All students of any course are debarred from visiting any medical or healing practitioner unless they are given an Ethics clearance first and all possibility of 'roller-coaster' (sudden case decline) has been looked into and any suppressives or bad auditing precisely isolated. The exception is an emergency involving severe injury or *infectious* disease, but in this case the student must be cleared by Ethics to be permitted back on course or even in the org. This includes all accidents.

"Course Supervisors are subject to Comm Ev in not so routing students requesting to see a doctor. "All students *must* have permission to see a medical doctor except in cases of severe emergency."

[note: words with '*' before and after are italicized in original text] Hubbard said that sickness is "the result of engram chains in restimulation" (ref: HCOB 16 August 1969 "Handling Illness in Scientology").

In "Professional Auditor's Bulletin No. 7", August 1953, Hubbard said: "All ills are basically lack of one's own space."

From HCOB 20 April 1972 "Expanded Dianetics Series 4, Suppressed PCs and PTS Tech": "All sick persons are PTS."

From HCOB 10 August 1973 "PTS Handling": "...all illness in greater or lesser degree and all foul-ups stem directly and only from a PTS condition." and "...getting rid of that condition requires three basic actions: A. Discover. B. Handle or disconnect."

HCOB 11 July 1973 "Assist Summary" states: "Injuries, operations, delivery of babies, severe illnesses and periods of intense emotional shock all deserve to be handled with thorough and complete assists."

"In addition to assists there is Dianetic auditing of an acutely ill person which handles the current and past illnesses and injuries by erasing the 'physical trauma'." -- HCOB 2 April 1969 "Dianetic Assists"

"If the Student has been on drugs he must be given a Drug Rundown. If he is PTS he must be handled in Ethics and given a PTS Rundown. If the student is ill he should be handled by Dianetics. An R/Sing person should be handled by Expanded Dianetics." -- HCOB 4 April 1972, Revised 30 May 1972 "Tech Div Primary Rundown"

When I was in the Sea Org and became sick, I *never* was sent to the doctor - NEVER once in 8 years of SO duty, and I was sick a couple of times, especially in 1979 when I became VERY sick. I was actually *ordered* out of bed by the Ethics Officer and told to get to my post (work). The only treatment I received at that time was a "touch assist". In earlier years when I was sick, I was told I was "PTS" and was "C/Sed" for, and received, the "PTS Rundown".

When I needed a root canal in 1976 for a bad tooth, I went to the Medical Liaison Officer. He told me I could not go to the dentist because he had "no MO float" (funds) because the "float was cut by FP". This was true. He was afraid to send me to the dentist because he did not want to be responsible for the expense as per HCO PL "Purchasing Liability of Staff" and the Finance Series 10RB "Purchasing and Check Signing Lines Modified", which states that "Any expense committed in the name of the Church [sic] must have the written authorization of the Treasury Secretary of the Church [sic] to be considered valid and payable by the Church [sic]."

According to Flag Order 732, "A Sea Org member is supposed to get ...his medical and dental" needs taken care of. In reality, during the time I was on staff in the Sea Org, there was *no* dental care provided for me. I was always told that there was "no money in the MO float" to pay for any dental visits I desperately needed. And I was an "upstat" staff member. I had to moonlight on another job in order to earn the money to pay for my own dental care which was *supposed* to have been the responsibility of my Sea Org unit I worked in. And I wasn't the only Sea Org staff member who was denied dental and medical care by our org. I am aware of many other staff who were in the same predicament.
