I have an amusing story about some Jehova's Witnesses that happened just
before last Nov.'s benefit concert for the Lisa McPherson Trust. There was a
woman in Tampa who was helping me line up some of the bands, and I had
kept her identity out of the mix so that she would not be bothered by
Scientologists. I had given her some information, and had been keeping her
advised of the things that were going on,such as the verbal smears and other
efforts to stop that concert. One day a couple weeks before the concert, she
was working around her house when she saw these two guys in white shirts
and ties, walking up her sidewalk. She was freaked out and thought they were
Scientologists. She tried to run and lock the front door, but they got there
before she could do that...so she opened her door and they said, "Hello, we're
Jehova's Witnesses..." to which she replied, "OH THANK GOD!"
I don't think someone has ever been so happy to se Jehova's Witnesses at her door!

A couple of nice ladies came to my door Saturday. They'd been here once before to leave material, this time we had a nice chat.
Curiously, our little chat about good and evil somehow segued into a discussion about false prophets and churches. They're pretty involved with Revelations in the Witnesses, and I was able to give them a series of accounts about Scientology, its pretense of religion, and the actual facts of the cult's criminal behavior.
Here's the surprise...they already knew quite a bit about Scientology!
One lady had even heard of the Raul Lopez case, which I expanded on for her.
I know their program, she kept dragging out her bible and I kept coming up with corroboration that sort of links the cult with their perception of the 'end days.' We discussed history, religion, and criminal behavior in the United States. After about a half hour, we exchanged fliers and booklets. I got Watchtowers. They got a bunch of stuff about the criminal behavior and coercive tactics used by Scientology. Now, I'll never sign up as a Witness, I hear that their heaven is already full.
We did have a nice, pleasurable chat, though. They asked if they could come back some other time. I'm sure visiting my house is much nicer than some of the places they visit. But then, not everyone is as tolerant of door-to-door prosyletizers than I am.
Of course, Scientology doesn't go door-to-door, or I'd have to alter that claim!
