Dear arnie and andreas:
Kathryn here. Wanted to thank you guys for posting my story and I
also want to give you an update.
I have been recovering a day at a time. I had been content to just
leave my story as it is. For some reason, I had the idea that maybe
Scn wouldn't make any more crazy people. Don't know, just thought
that perhaps they wouldn't.
Then last spring I heard about Greg Bashaw, and another person - a
woman - who was also mentally troubled. Both of them were long long
time scientologists, like myself and Lisa.
I spoke with Greg. Don't know if his family had read my story on your
site, but the person that put me in touch with him had. We had a
very intimate connection. So many similarities between us. He was
also the first person that I had contacted who was in that hell hole
of a place that I had been. I tried to help, as best I could.
The same for the other troubled person. Her family read my story on
your site and got in touch with me. I spoke with both her and her
family at length.
But, truly, I did not know how or why I survived, and therefore could
only add personal words of hope and encouragement, and direct them to
whatever standard therapy they were receiving.
When Greg died, of course, it hit me hard. It hit everyone who cared
very hard. But for myself, it really hit home as to how so very very
lucky I have been to make it back from the Hell Hole of Insanity that
Scientology sent me
to.
I wanted to have an understanding of how I crawled out, and I wanted
to be able to give real help to anyone else who came my way, and
especially to the woman that was fast headed for Greg's demise if
effective help did not come her way.
You see, it is difficult to go psychotic at any time, and due to any
circumstances, but to have been driven there by scientology is like a
triple whammy. For all of us - Lisa, Greg, Myself and the other
woman that I know, we were in scientology for years and years. We
were true scientologists, and therefore would not want to "squirrel",
or mix ourselves up with other practices, and of course -- most
assuredly so, we would not want to see a
mental health therapist for help.
But, what happens to a Scn who has gone Psychotic? You can read about
Lisa or yourself. I know for Greg, Myself and this other woman ---
we are DROPPED by Scn -- to quote one of us "so fast it would make
your head spin"...
Then we are alone. So truly alone. Alone in the unbearable pain that
is the Psychotic state of mind. The movie "A Beautiful Mind" is
good, a good rendition, but think more like the powerful, soul
sucking evil renderred in "The Lord of the Rings".
While I could understand and really relate to Greg and the other
woman,, I didn't have a life line for them. I didn't really
understand the process by which I had climbed out of that pit. The
Scientologists were long gone. And the Mental Health Professionals
did not have a handle on what was going on with a Long Term
Scientologist "OT" who had been driven to this point.
A person in a Psychotic state is not yet ready for any help, other
than help that is going to get their mind back to a working state. A
state wherein they can think a thought, dial a phone number, enjoy a
day, have a laugh or two.
Given Strong Desire and a Lot of Synchronistic Help from the Universe
that is so large... I did find some resources. Some really good
resources.
Professional People that have been dealing with psychosis for years,
and a compassionate and holistic manner.
They had never dealt with a Scientology driven psychotic, but were
certainly up for the challenge. I am happy to report that with their
care and understanding the woman has improved. She has recovered
back to the world we are all in, and now just needs to continue to
improve.
Their network of professionals exist around the world, and can be
there to assist anyone else in this position.
I have done a lot more study on what happened to me, and these other
individuals. I want to state very clearly, that they do not guarantee
results. They can't. Once a person has been driven to the point where they have "fallen off the cliff" so to speak, there are no guarantees that they can make it back. So, I don't want any "if Only's as in the tragic case of Greg Bashaw",,, It also makes me appreciate, yet again, how so very lucky I am to have survived it.
I also want to make it clear that it is not an easy feat.... to
drive someone off the cliff. Scientology has had to work very hard,
very very hard, to get the mental results they have.
I'm not so naive anymore to think that we are the last, so I want to
offer my e mail address to anyone who knows of someone, or a family
member who is in this "extreme state of mind".
I will always keep this address, or I will keep you updated if I
change it.
Please feel free to post this on your web sites, and also to post to
ARS.
Thanks,
Kathryn

I'd prefer to die speaking my mind than live fearing to speak.
The only thing that always works in scientology are its lawyers The internet is the liberty tree of the new millennium Secrets are the mortar binding lies as bricks together into prisons for the mind http://www.lermanet.com/grifters.htm - mentioned 4 January 2000 in The Washington Post's - 'Reliable Source' column re "Scientologist with no HEAD"
