Yes, it was the Gerbode case. It appears on the 1995 supplement to the
Yeazell, Landers and Martin Civil Procedure casebook, on the chapter
that discusses Rule 11 sanctions.

Recently on another thread law student Margarita Lacabe noted that there was a
reference to Helena Kobrin in her civil procedures textbook, in a section
on judicial sanctions "against lawyers who abuse the judicial system" which
discusses Rule 11 sanctions (sanctions for frivilous lawsuits). Apparently the
authors are Yeazell, Landers and Martin, but no title or publisher was stated
by Ms. Lacabe, and I have been unable to find this book on the net.
If anyone has this book, will you e-mail and post verbatim the section from that book which mentions Ms. Kobrin, or tell me where I might find the citation itself on the net? If you can provide the citation itself, please include the book's full title, the publisher name, publication date, and the pages cited. This information will be used to update the next edition of the COS SHYSTER LIST.
Many thanks in advance.

From an Altavista search of an index of law texts, only two books turned
up, and I'd guess that one of these is the one you're looking for (they
just seem to be different editions of the same text; the first one is the
most recent, but would not be the edition Ms. Lacabe used unless she was
in law school in 1998). You can view this at the following site, which
also permits online ordering (I assume that you can also find these books
in many law libraries as well):

CIVIL PROCEDURE Fourth Edition
Stephen C. Yeazell, University of California, Los Angeles
This edition of Stephen Yeazell's extraordinarily successful casebook,
CIVIL PROCEDURE, has been updated to reflect new cases and recent
changes to the Federal Rules. The Fourth Edition retains the same
easy-to-follow organization, manageable length, tightly edited cases,
and accessible format that have made it a favorite among teachers and
students. Key features of this edition include:
* new litigation documents -- actual litigation documents include a pleading and a deposition that are the subject of judicial decisions * recent rule changes -- new textual and case treatment of the new discovery rules and Rule 11 reflect substantial changes * new cases in rapidly developing areas, particularly punitive damages and class action * expanded coverage of: disposition without trial, including alternate dispute resolution; class actions, including the controversial "settlement class"; attorney's fees; and the incidence of litigation.
The Fourth Edition features a flexible organization that starts with jurisdiction or pleadings -- whichever you prefer. This edition is even more teachable with these organizational changes:
* separate chapters on personal jurisdiction and subject matter jurisdiction * two chapters on trial -- one on selecting the trier of fact and the other on trial proper A 1997 Statutory Supplement and excellent Teacher's Manual round out this superb package.
1996 1,043 pages ISBN 0-316-96727-0 Stock #67270 With Teacher's Manual.
