Picket Report/LA May, 2002
My very first picket was done with Stacy Brooks, and Bob Minton.
I had never been to a picket, and didn't realize you could picket with just a few people. We did it, I made my first video: Magoo~Dancing in Boston, and was declared immediately after. Why? Because ~they~ (OSA) looked like out of communication idiots. From there we explained quickly to over 50 in Clearwater.
Today was the Celebration of the anniversary of Dianetics, so a few of us decided to picket. Many people who usually do were out of town, but we here decided to go ahead anyways.
We met at the Sizzler for lunch, and then headed over to Home Depot to get some materials to make signs. Since Larry Wollersheim had won his 8.7 Million Dollars, we decide that should be the main message of our signs, as we knew they weren't going to inform the public of this. Hell, they have promised for 22 years that he'd never get "One thin dime"...so with that, we made our signs.
Mine said:
Wollersheim is
PAID ((after 22 years))
By Scientology:
8.7 Million Dollars!!
and the other side said,
Scientology Pays
Wollersheim
87 Million "Thin Dimes"!!!
Another Phantom Picketer had joined us, and this was his first picket. He was great.... and we enjoyed having him along.
Jeff Jacobson came, and also a new X-Sea Org member (new to our group anyways), Dan.
We all headed from here to the Int HGB (Hollywood Guarantee Building).
Always in Hollywood there is a LOT of commotion, and this picket was no different. As usual, the staff were totally out of communication with us, and for the most part hiding inside the buildings. They snuck things out rapidly into vans for the event, if we were down the street. Once we'd go back, they'd zoom everyone back in the building. Too funny when you consider this is a group who drills people in communication drills, promises they believe in "ARC" and that their top people are "AT Cause". Really? Over what?
The Scientology Parishioners League arrived, and all huddled at one end of a block. I wasn't sure what their plans were, nor were they I guess. Later I found out Jeff Jacobson (what a guy!) had discovered a law re picketing and blocking pickets. It was based from the KKK days, but is still on the books today. He said he'd posted it last night, so they were all in different form today. It worked!
We walked back and forth in front of the L. Ron Hubbard Life? Exhibition and passed out flyers on Xenu.net and Scientology in general. Thanks to our new friend for these :)
I have said it before and I'll say it again: It is STILL amazing to me how many people grab these flyers! I borrowed Kristi's line:
"Find out about Scientology, it's worse than you think".
I am ever amazed at how many people here in LA say, "Oh! I KNOW how bad it is!~~~" and walk on.
Many people also walk by and congratulated us, thanked us, and asked us to continue. One guy rode by on his bike and whispered to me, "Keep exposing them!~!~!" Many people said similar things in various different ways. This went on all day. They had a few "OT's" (*Oh yeah.... they refuse to talk to me AT ALL, but they're "OT"???
In which sense? Cause over? ??
We all moved from INT down the block to the "Testing Center" and picketed that. Again, they had a few "OT's" who refused to talk to us At all. I know you might say, "But your SP's" however, you're talking to someone who never bought that. I always did go talk to people against my group. I wanted to know what was up, and I knew if there was any hope of bringing about peace, it was ONLY through communication, certainly not from ignoring them.
These "Ot's" were out trying to hand out their flyers here. Few people would take them, but many took ours, again. I told the one girl, "you really SHOULD survey this public: They really dislike you!" That's not Black PR....
those are their words!!! She just shot me one of their classic snotty, dirty looks. One young girl here told me, "you need to clear up your MU's". Oh!!!
IS that it? Don't mind ~my~ side of the story...she knows everything: That's Scientology. They have their catch phrases for everything; Classic mind control, really.
Ok...on to the Shrine. There as we drove by tons of staff was outside eating dinner. We parked, and walked there with our signs.
As we got there, they'd shuttled all staff inside. God forbid they might see the truth: LARRY WOLLERSHEIM WAS PAID 8.7 Million Dollars!
We picketed the one side for awhile, and then joined Jeff on the other side.
Jeff had handed OSA the law printed out, so although they had signs to block ours, they weren't nearly as bad as they have been in the past. Also funny is their signs saying "Welcome" and me standing right next to them with "Scientology PAYS Wollersheim 8.7 Million Dollars".
Hey~! It's the truth!!!
They had the SPL there too, and they were on one corner. On the other corner were some yo ho's making snide remarks constantly.
I finally at the end told Lynn Farney (Hi Lynn) that the SPL did well, but the other Yoho's should get crammed. He started to make a snide remark himself then caught himself, and promised to follow up finding my $29,000 I have on account that they have suddenly, on the Freewinds, "Lost". We'll see.
So we had a very peaceful, nice picket. We informed LOTS of people about the dangers and abuses of Scientology.
At the end I stood next to Joel who I had turned the Scientology Parishioners League over to and said: "You know...you have your views, and I have mine. But the big difference is I still like you, and you have to hate my guts". I could tell he heard me....and he didn't really like that concept, but he knows it's true, more or less. He's a good person, and I missed being able to just talk with him.
Scientologists are, for the most part, good people. Actually many of them are really nice people. But it is truly sad to see them trapped in this game they think they are winning. They are, within their own Scio/Truman show...although even that is faltering. But for each of their sakes, I can only hope they finally hit the wall, and come through it to see what the hoopla is for the rest of the world.
It's quite bright, believe it or not :)))
Love to all, and Happy Mother's day!

I'll try not to repeat things Tory already posted.
While driving around LA before our lunch meeting, I heard KFI radio mention Wollersheim's victory on every half-hour radio spot, all morning long. I believe KFI is the biggest talk radio station in LA.
The Hollywood Blvd pickets were reasonably usual, except the cops never came to talk to us. I think this is the first time that has happened.
At the Shrine Auditorium the Usual Suspects came out with their strange "this way to the event" and "welcome to the event" picket signs. HOWEVER, they did NOT block our signs this time, mostly.
Right when I got there I handed the cop standing by my area a copy of the Title 18 US Code that I have previously posted - and will post again in a different post from this. As soon as the Scientologists started to block our signs, I handed each of them a copy of the law that says anyone who conspires to prevent a US citizen from practicing any Constitutional right can get up to 10 years in prison. They seemed to already know about this law, and one guy just rolled up my handout and threw it in the garbage, I think without reading it.
However, imho this law is like garlic against a vampire; it seems to work! The last time we picketed at the Shrine there were usually 3 Scientologists with signs standing in front of our "WWW.XENU.NET"
banner. This time, almost nothing. Oh, we couldn't find the banner for this time so we just had signs.
Another thing, and they say imitation is the highest form of flattery, the Scientologists unfurled a very long banner that said "www.religiousfreedomwatch.org" My assumption is that they were planning to stand in front of our banner with their bigger banner, but since we didn't even have ours, they just unfurled it for a while then put it away.
Now that I think about it, I think there was less attendance at this event than any other Scientology Shrine event I've been to, just judging from the foot and parking traffic.
Anyway, it was a fun trip and the gang was fun company. Nice meeting new people!
