To Governor Bill Owens, and Mr. M. Michael Cooke, Executive Director, Colo. Dept. of Revenue
Dear Sirs,
I've just learned that the Colorado Department of Revenue paid Peak Proficiency Solutions, a group affiliated with Applied Scholastics, International, which is an established front group of the Scientology religious cult, for management and communication training at a seminar held in Breckenridge, on May 19th of this year.
This is simply unacceptable to me. As a taxpayer, I vigorously protest the use of my Colorado tax dollars going into the coffers of any religion, let alone a fascist, brainwashing cult like Scientology.
You may or may not know that several years back, the Allstate Insurance company was heavily criticized and publicly embarrassed, as it also faced potentially huge legal liability, for similarly forcing its employees to take training courses that were really Scientology indoctrination masquerading as secular management training. Please do not allow Colorado to repeat the mistake that Allstate made.
The evidence that the seminar was a given by a Scientologist is clear, based on the course handout, which can be seen in it's entirety at the following web address:
http://www.state.co.us/cfma/Seminars/Spring2005/Handouts/Writing%20Professional%20Emails.pdf
In this handout, the religious leader of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, is given credit for writing the Golden Rule! That smacks of indoctrination, to me.
I demand that the State of Colorado never again hire management training from Peak Proficiency Solutions, or any other group affiliated with Applied Scholastics, International, or other groups affiliated with Scientology, or that are based on the writings of L. Ron Hubbard. Furthermore, I demand that the state government reject Scientology terminology and other subtle elements of Scientology indoctrination in official policies and procedures regarding official e-mail communications, which are being promoted for use in the training materials.
Finally, I strongly protest the fact that my tax dollars were spent to benefit the Scientology religion. Whoever booked this company may not have realized that Applied Scholastics promotes religious indoctrination and Scientology recruitment via subtle and surreptitious methods. But there is no excuse when official training materials begin with praise for the leader and figurehead of a notorious and anti-democratic religious cult.
I await your response.
Sincerely,
Michael Reuss
