Thanks but no thanks--church can keep its books

The books of the Church of Scientology mission, part of Auburn’s recent donation of Ron Hubbard’s books on dianetics to our local library, should have some clarification. This is not a religion; it is a cult and a very dangerous one.

Ex-scientology aid Paul G. Breckenridge was quoted in the L.A. Times in June 22, 1984; "In addition to violating and abusing its own members’ rights ... the organization has harassed and abused those persons not in the church whom it perceives as enemies. The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid like its founder. Hubbard’s writings reflect his egoism, greed, lust for power and aggressiveness."

I believe that the entrance of such books into our public library is not in the best interest of our community. A professor of philosophy and Bible at Westminster College told of Scientology’s utter lack of social concern and should not pose as a church when it offers society nothing but an expensive psychotherapy.
