After reading ARS since around '95, I can state categorically that I look forward to its demise.

Not because of any of Barbara's 'criticisms', or disillusionment with critical infighting or any of the *valid* criticisms on ARS as a whole or the contributions to it.

No, I look forward to the demise of ARS because, despite occassional or frequent 'off-topic' postings; vicious yet ridiculous 'group dynamics'; hilarious and entertainingly pleasant interactions by a group of amazingly versatile and intelligent (if sometimes wacky) posters....

Alt religion scientology exists for *one* reason - exposure of the abuses, horrors, methods and goals of the Church of Scientology and the Hubbardist dogma that created them.

ARS will die when those horrors stop; whether because the 'Church' has finally achieved its pre-ordained self-destruction, or much less likely, has reformed itself to the point of merely being yet another harmless silliness in a world full of both harmless and harmful sillinesses.

Sure, there's enough cameraderie around to allow ARS to dwindle on probably for years following that ultimate and inevitable collapse, but hey... it just won't be the same place :)
