An aspiring actor has been jailed for 10 years for looting among the debris of Ground Zero.
Rescue workers spotted Roland Abarrategui taking souvenir snapshots of body parts among the still burning debris.
His two shoulder bags were found to be stuffed with looted watches, cameras and credit cards.
Abarrategui tried claiming he was a Red Cross volunteer. He said he had found the bags of goods and was going to turn them in.
Prosecution evidence at his trial included the 25-year-old's own souvenir snapshots - showing him posing in a hardhat and NYPD shirt at the scene.
The New York Post reports the aspiring actor from the Upper East side had groveled for leniency, telling the judge: "I'm a good person. I'm a very good person."
Before hitting him with the maximum sentence his burglary allowed, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lewis Stone told Abarrategui: "You were down there at Ground Zero at a time of great stress in this country. And you were there for stealing things."
Prosecutor Chad Sjoquist said: "There has to be something different about someone, to do something after this tragedy. To go down to what is essentially a graveyard - to steal."
Story filed: 15:57 Saturday 13th April 2002 ====== Of course the Volunteer Ministers were only there to loot the living.
(Yes, I'm sure that there were some Scientologists with good motives, but that's not why $cientology was there.)
Ron of that ilk.
