He was billed by a label saying "the Beatles' guru' or some such. I had to listen to this old fraud talk about yogic flying. I've seen videos of that, and if those guys aren't merely bouncing on their asses in a lotus position, I'll eat your cat.
There are many cults, but they all use a basic set of tools to control people, and the Maharishi is no exception. He spoke of his goal to establish parallel governments which "support life," which would in no way interfere with established governmental systems. Yeah, right...
He attacked Western medicine. "I have stacks of material in my room that reach to the ceiling that tell of terrible things medicine has done,"
sez he. He then claimed science to be a fraud, using a silly example of Hiroshima to support his argument. He then followed up with the usual "society is going to hell" statements so familiar to students of cults.
It was quite obvious that he was attempting to prey on viewer's fears.
It was also clear how he was focussing on the negative aspects of medicine and science to do so. I wonder how he'd feel if he had twins that were joined at the chest? Would meditation help him with that?
On one hand, I wasn't very pleased with Larry King allowing this old fraud to shill on his program. I did enjoy watching him with a critical eye, and spotting the not-so-subtle techniques he was using to attract prey. He's another guy with an agenda to take over the world and tell us all how to live. And doesn't he just look benevolent as hell with his snowy beard and blandly kind facial expressions!
Well, he's gotten a lot of mileage out of having suckered the Beatles and he's still playing off it. Scientology has Cruise and Travolta. The Maharishi has Paul and Ringo.
I hope that there are people out there working as hard to expose him as we are with Scientology. The whole interview set off flashing red lights and warning bells. I think he's dangerous.
