This report on the recent May 9th event will be brief for several reasons.
First,I got held up in some horrific traffic which caused me to be late for the event. Second, I was extremely hassled and didn't want to be there and really had my attention elsewhere during this event and last, it was a rather boring event and I found myself actually nodding off a few times.
In addition to all of that, I did not go straight home and make notes and therefore, I lost many of the details. However, when the next batch of mags come out with data about the event I will report on anything I missed.
OK So the big new to me about this event is that DM was a no show.
That's right he wasn't there. I have no idea why. Being late, I do not have any idea who opened the event and DM, who is usually the Master of Ceremony, did not show.
Honestly, I cannot remember the last time DM did not emcee an event.
There are 4, BIG International Events, The New Years Event, The LRH Birthday Event, The May 9th Event, and the IAS Event.
DM ALWAYS runs (emcees) these International Events. For him not to be there running this, is a very big deal.
Now add to that, 3 out of the 4 speakers at this event were making many flubs.
At these events, all the speakers are drilled to death on their speech. In addition, each speaker relies on very well concealed teleprompters. You very rarely see the Int event speakers making flubs but it was extremely noticeable that they were flubbing up stuff badly.
The first speaker was Karen Hollander and she just stumbled through her prepared speech for several minutes until she finally settled down. It was the same PR stuff as usual.
The came Mark Yager, who was also stumbling and bumbling through his prepared speech and I began to wonder what the hell was going on. DM is missing and the two main speakers are tripping all over their own words. All I could think about was whether they would be getting a cramming order for all their mistakes or if they would be assigned lower conditions.
I also was wondering if their stumbling was connected to DM not being there. Like they were shook up or upset, but no one was talking about and like good indoc'd Scio's no one would talk about it.
I could speculate at this point, as I have no actual data, but who knows, this event happened a couple of days after DM had to approve a 8.6 million dollar check to someone that he promised would not get one thin dime and Bob and Stacy were now guest stars for Scn in the LM case. Davey probably had a lot of things on his mind. ;-)
Now another big surprise was Heber made an appearance. It has been several years since I've seen Heber at one of these events and he got a big round of applause.
Heber didn't speak much, which is unusual and it appeared to me that he was brought out to present the awards for most books sold etc., to let everyone know that he was still around. Heber also managed his own flubs and mangled the award winners names pretty badly. This again is highly unusual
The only other notable thing about Heber's performance was his awkwardness in having his photo taken beside the award winners and how he seemed to be in a big hurry to get them off the stage as soon as possible. Despite his "professional manner," he looked out of practice and not quite there.
ED Int did his part with his usual light and jaunty air and was the
only one that didn't screw anything up.
There was a remake of an LRH Film called "Evolution of a Science".
This was a 20 to 25 minute film and will be part of a new campaign to go along with promoting the book. I couldn't figure out why they would want to remake an LRH film and then it occurred to me that the original film was made 20 years ago and probably more than half the cast have either blown or been declared and we all know how Scn likes to re write history so it will seem that these people don't really exist now.
The film promotes the book "Evolution of a Science" through a story and of course, they have to add all that hokey crap about the psychs.
Sorry for the lack of specifics but a few things I do recall was that there was news of new missions opening, but I don't remember where.
Four new ones may have opened in the US since the beginning of the year, or since the last event, I can't remember which.
The number of Book One auditing hours did something like 10X in the
past year, and a graph with actual hours was shown.
The bookseller from Liberia has been selling DMSMH there and in the surrounding half a dozen or more countries. There are Dianetics groups now all over the area, including Rwanda.
I got out of there before the gauntlet was formed and the regs converged, so I missed the end
The next big event will not be until October (the IAS event), which is usually one of the better ones, data wise that is. So I'll see you there ;-)
