I'd love to get a tape of this trial.
"Scientologists don't need to make Minton a criminal, he did himself. He is only charged with a misdemeanor battery, that's all this is. This is a misdemeanor. This thing has mushroomed in huge proportions, but it is a misdemeanor battery. The State of Florida is prosecuting him, not Scientologists. The State of Florida is not being duped with this Mission Impossible scenario that he defense has come up with. I am not being duped."
Yes, Bill, you were duped. And the jury saw that too.
and earlier:
"There is an undercurrent of hate. Wouldn't you rather have Mr. Minton on the street protesting after you heard his message in here? You hear his message in here and you discard it. You understand that it is bigotry. It is well known what his message is. Everybody can take him for what he is and what you saw."
and this one:
"According to Mr. Minton he doesn't like the way they think, they don't know any better. That was a comment on Mr. Howd's intelligence that he doesn't know any better, to belong to them, and be a slave to them, that's what his statements were."
"I want you to understand something. I don't represent Scientology, I know nothing about Scientology, and I don't need to know anything about Scientology."
This last statement explains the paragraph before. Bill doesn't know anything about Scientology. It pretty obvious. But I guess he got a little education when he was informed that Scientology execs were coaching Howd from the audience, and that PIs were sent to harass a witness just before the trial. Does Bill need to know anything about Scientology? Absolutely, if he has family or friends in the Clearwater area and he wants to keep them safe, he has to know what a dangerous cult this is. I find it amazing that somebody in the office that prosecuted Scientology for the death of Lisa McPherson can look a jury straight in the eye and say he doesn't know anything about Scientology. Based on his behavior in court I believe him, I just find it amazing.

Not once in the transcript do they talk about Thetans, Reactive Minds, Engrams, Case, Past Life Incidents, Charge, Auditing, E-meters, Overt/Withholds, Mental Mass, ARC, KRC, OT Powers or Clears. You would think that comprises a good part of the "religion" of Scientology. But Bill thinks that Fair Game is part of the "religion." I have to agree with him, the nasty parts are integral to the belief system. But to say that criticizing Fair Game is to put religion on trial is just absurd. And the jury obviously agrees.
"The State of Florida versus Robert S. Minton. We the jury find as follows as to the Defendant in this case, the Defendant is not guilty, so say we all, foreperson of the jury Tina X."
Hooray!
