Cancer
Norman Thomson
After just completing OT 7 and getting ready to begin OT
8, Norman Thomson of Los Angeles, CA contracted throat
cancer and died.
Larry Pollack of Los Angeles, CA, OT 8, Class 6 Larry was recently (1999) diagnosed with brain cancer.
He is in the middle of OT 7, having just completed the new Golden Age of Tech for OT 6 and 7. He had been getting ready to go for his 6 month auditing check on Flag when this diagnosis was made. He has refused to do any kind of standard medical treatment and is expected to live for only a few more months.
Suicides, attempted suicides or psychotic breaks Claudia Ballard, OT 4, Class 8 from San Diego, California She was an OT 4 who was trying to fulfill her requirements to get onto OT 5 in 1991 at AOLA. Her C/S was Roz Reese. She did the Class 8 Course and was co-auditing with another student on that course. A few months after she finished her co-auditing cycle she was told that she had to go to cramming for missing a withhold on a pc. She went to cramming at AOLA and all her certificates were cancelled without a proper Committee of Evidence or Board of Investigation. She was also declared an illegal pc. This was an injustice because she had been in Scientology for over 20 years and her family was in Scientology. Also, she had been on staff and had contributed significantly to Scientology. Claudia was completely devastated by these injustices. She made many attempts to handle this with different staff at AOLA to no avail. She tried to follow the proper channels and policies but got no satisfaction.
She communicated to friends how depressed she was and how devastating these injustices and lack of recourse were to her. Shortly thereafter she drove her car up to the mountains and shot herself in the head.
She wrote a suicide note for her husband siting her recent problems with Scientology as the reasons for her suicide.
Linda Bosley of Los Angeles, CA, Class 6 auditor In 1997 Linda was co-auditing with Joanie Barnes, another Class 6 at ASHO/D. She had been complaining for many months that she wasn't feeling well. Despite her complaints and bad indicators nothing was done to handle her.
Linda became very disoriented and upset and attempted suicide.
Richard Valle, currently a Sea Org. Member and the Continental Justice Chief of the Western United States There are unsubstantiated reports that Richard Valle has become very upset about rumors that he has homosexual tendencies. It has been observed that he suffers from depression and irrational behavior.
