I just got this word on Tom Padgett: Tom is in the Madisonville holding tank with hardened criminals as this PM on Monday 8/7/2000. Please get the word out. The Court would not appoint Tom an Attorney, and Tom would not talk without an Attorney so in jail he went. Please get the word out that Tom is in the Madisonville County jail, in Madisonville, Ky. I think some people in Madisonville could be contacted, no? An additon I received (some stuff deleted): Tom is being held in contempt of court. [..] He requested an attorney today in court and denied one. He was taken to jail with no bond allowed until next Monday. There was no 'district attorney' listed, the civil court would have those numbers though. the jail will have the most people curious enough about this mess to want to hear what you have to say. Rest assured that whatever you tell any person there will make it back to the court, the DA and every attorney in town. When I was detained at the instigation of a cult supporter, there were 24 telephone calls to the hospital. The calls had a stunningly marvelous effect. When I was first deposited they looked at me with great distain, then after a couple of hours people began looking at me with a bit of a puzzled look. then after a few more hours they were being slighlty defferential. My the time I left the next morning they were calling me Mr.Scott and telling me thier own stories about the cult.. and telling me they got 24 calls about my welfare and never had anything like that happen before. They got calls about me 24 hours a day from around the world. ... many of the calls they put through to a hallway telephone where I could talk. Trust me. A phone call at a time like that is priceless. The calls make a difference. But need to be professional, decent, and mentioning heavily the cults tactics of framing people for crimes. then leave some URL's for the people to look at.... and I recommend one have on hand some of the judges quotes from Arnies web site. www.lermanet.com. I'd say about half of the people you contact will want to hear all you have on the cult :). Then Tom will be treated very well. Also you can leave messages for the prisoner and they will have to deliver them. I got a lot of moral support that way, and it made a **massive difference in how I held up. it is a stressful situation Tom is in. I recommend anyone calling leave their real name and phone number or at least a return phone number and nick name so Tom can call if he wants and so the officials don't catagorize your call as a crank call. Got the following on Tom: Tom is still in jail. He has to go back next Tues. the 22nd for senticing. It does not look good for Tom. The rumor is that the other side wants to come to a settlement, but that remains to be seen. The money was there yesterday to pay for the minor child's future child support, but that was not what the Ct. wanted. They apparantely said that Tom did not live up to his diversion plea. All I know is hearsay at this point.
