PICKET NOTICE, London UK, Lisa McPherson Day [2002/dec/07, Saturday] =================================================== two week's time

In co-ordination with other human rights activists around the world opposed to the actions of the Scientology cult, we will be holding a picket of the Scientology shop at 68 Tottenham Court Road in London, two doors south from Goodge Street tube underground station on the northern line. It will be at 1 to 3:30pm on Saturday the 7th of December, to commemorate the death of Lisa McPherson in 1995 (on 5th December) at Scientology's FLAG Land Base in Clearwater Florida. She died consequent on dehydration after being held for 17 days without adequate food and water, having lost one third of her own body weight, by their own admission on the isolation step of Scientology's Introspection Rundown.

After Internet Activists drew attention to the place of her death, there was considerable publicity, and the family brought a wrongful death suit against Scientology which goes before a jury around 15th January 2003. Scientology has made considerable efforts to sink the trial. Bob Minton and Stacy Brooks, once financial backers of the dead girl's family, eventually came to a settlement agreement with the cult where -- in exchange for withholding actions not fully specified -- they agreed to pay all legal costs incurred by Scientology from their backing its opponents in court, and to testify against the McPherson family.

So far it appears that, despite this, the family's case will go to trial and they have at least a 60/40 chance of substantial damages.
