I mentioned this in a reply to someone else's post, but thought I'd throw it out here in its own thread.
From our Toronto friends, we hear that the cult actually got police pulled from a situation to waste time listening to Buttnor whine during yesterday's picket. Possibly even more significant is the fact that our local weenie org in San Diego called the cops during our last demo! If bothering the police with nuisance calls over peaceful demonstrations has become SOP for the orgs now, I believe it's time we countered that with a police information pack.
What I have collected so far should be of interest to the police who have to take these calls. I wish to reveal that which the cult would like to keep hidden.
My local pack will start of with the fine description of the cult by CWPD Lt. (retired) Ray Emmons. A piece by a brother officer is a great way to get the local officer's attention.
This is followed by a short (I hope) account of why we're protesting, and Scientology's reaction to and suppression of our First Amendment right to free speech. I will strongly emphasize that we are not Protesting A Religion (as Scn will doubtless whine) but the organization's abuse of people and the law. I will outline their policies of Fair Game and Dead Agenting, followed by examples from religiousfreedomwatch, particularly one on a critic who suffers from an anxiety disorder. It is mentioned on their page. This will be served up attached to a recent anonymous email which was sent to this critic. This individual will be my guest this winter, the email not only lists the trip agenda, it also threatens this person with arrest should they come near Scientology property. As an added bonus, the anonymous emailer flatly states that law enforcement is on the side of the cult, and that we can expect to be arrested should we choose to exercise our right to free speech. It is obvious from the email that the cult is attempting to exacerbate this person's anxiety disorder to shut them up. The combo of the hate page and email will certainly put the cult in a bad light to law enforcement, as the majority of officers join the force to try and make a difference and help people.
Since the police will be responding to Scientology's nuisance call, and were probably told they are in fear of their safety from the big, bad protesters, I will include here the account of the Toronto org and the police. As you know, the Toronto org is required to hire off-duty officers to "keep the peace" during announced pickets. This is because all the problems have been Scientology-generated, thus, they have to pick up the tab.
Following these pieces, I'll provide a section on nationwide harassment of peaceful protesters by the cult. The wonderful time line of Bob Minton's harassment, the EFF article on Keith's case, and the telling account of Jesse Prince's experience will give the police a good perspective on the true face of Scientology and its touted position towards free speech in America. Yeah, I know there are other cases. Tom Klemesrud, Tom Padgett, the raids on Erlich and Lerma...but brevity is important, I don't want to overwhelm the poor cops, just give them something to read between calls.
Following this will be the Scientology World Indictment tour list, demonstrating that this is not just a local problem, but a global one.
Operation Snow White? Is there anything out there about it that will fit on one page?
I will also include quick overviews of actions other cults have taken against society. The Rajhneeshi, People's Temple, Aum Shinryoko, and Branch Davidians, followed by Andre Tabayoyan's affidavit relating to Gold Base. Weapons, snipers, razor wire, all essential trappings for any good religion, right?
I still need good, brief material relating to the RPF. A short piece description would be nice, which will be paired with Scientology's body count. Indeed, what kind of religion has prison camps and body counts?
The police may well wonder!
A mother's letter to her disconnected son, that goes in.
And finally, a page of choice Hubbard quotes, followed by quotes from judges about the cult.
Also included will be copies of the Xenu flier and Ron the War Zero, and the half-page insert "Scientology Hurts People."
So here we have it. Think I've got it all covered?
Indictments
Deaths
Disconnection
Fair Game
Dead Agenting
Hubbard (quotes, War Zero)
Armed Compound
Infiltration (Snow White, Clearwater, maybe?)
Prison Camps
Xenu
I think that's about it in a clamshell. Ironically, all the material is
pretty much given to us by the cult and its 50 years of antics. As it
is, it's a lot of information and, while I know there's so much more
that needs to be said, one doesn't want to overwhelm. This is what I
have so far, suggestions are welcome!
When this project is completed, I will make it available online for you to dl and print out. Even though it's a lot of pages, critics will probably only need one or two copies to bring to pickets. If there's a DA page on you, use that one. If there's a DA page on someone you picket with, use that. It makes it just a little bit more personal that way.
Brings it home, as it were. People have a tendency to think "not in my community, this stuff happens somewhere else." Nothing could be further from the truth.
