Well, something's got Scientology's knickers in a twist lately!
Perhaps it's the upcoming wrongful death suit in Florida relating to Lisa McPherson, held by the cult against her will at the Fort Harrison Hotel until she died. She was held for seventeen days, and lost 45 lbs prior to her demise. There were many peculiarities in this case. The Medical Examiner, Joan Woods, changed her diagnosis in cause of death.
She originally determined that Ms. McPherson died of dehydration, but unexpectedly changed that to the one favored by the cult. She subsequently quit her job and dropped out of sight for a year, resurfacing with an unwillingness to take the stand in several cases she was accused of mishandling. Claiming that appearing in court would cause her health to suffer, she has since tried to set herself up as a consultant. Odd choice, considering that this career requires one to appear in court.
The Scientology organization, faced with the inability to "make it go right" and stop the court case, paid for a survey to be conducted in Florida. When the results showed 2 out of 3 people thought Scientology was a negative entity, they tried to get the case moved, as they claimed they could not get a fair trial. (it has been noted that Scientology's reputation as a totalitarian, litigious cult is widely spread across the US. They might get a positive result on Mars.)
The jury selection is complete. The case will go forward. The cult has already lost a skirmish in Texas, a peripheral case involving Ms.
McPherson's family.
Everything to date is well documented.
Scientology doesn't want this to be publicised, and the organization is fighting back the only way it knows how. They've sent in the clowns.
People who know this newsgroup well have seen many dramas played out on ARS, and are familiar with the patterns of the posters. Quite recently, we have seen an upwelling from the depths of the clambed.
Some of them, like Sun Surfer, are trying to convince you that exercising your right to free speech is bad, that it frightens and intimidates the active members of COS (church of Scientology.)
Scientologists pretend they are superior to us mere wogs. They have Powers we do not. How could we possibly intimidate such Mighty Beings?
They play the victim when it benefits them to do so.
Truthseeker has come out with assertions that picketing is a fairly useless endeavor. You'll perhaps notice that it WILL sometimes state that pickets are effective, with a big but...but, it's ineffective.
Dorian has spun his fantasies here for a long time. His claim is that there are "infiltrators" on ARS, posters whose job is to mislead you or worse. Amusingly, his list of infiltrators includes just about anyone who posts here on a regular basis. Truthseeker is now echoing Dorian, warning you that most of us are OSA agents, OSA being the cult's Office of Special Affairs, their toy CIA.
What might be the cult's goal in sending out these clowns? You must understand, first of all, that they think wogs are pathetically stupid, far less intelligent than Scientologists. Therefore, you should believe anything, you gullible twerp!
If you actually believed Dorian and Truthseeker, you'd certainly be hesitant to get involved in any critical activities, because you wouldn't trust any one contact to not be a cult minion. If you were convinced that picketing was a waste of time, you wouldn't be too likely to engage in that activity either.
Most of the longtime critics who post here have a record of activity on the net. Some of these have had very damaging results for the cult, and it's hardly likely that Scientology would hurt itself to this extent. Many of us have worked together on projects which damaged their goals of public acceptance and world domination. I've met several posters in person and have found them to be good people, albeit with many different reasons for engaging the Scientology organization. Some are ex-members. Some are free speech advocates.
Some, like me, just hate bullies and groups that betray the trust of the innocent.
Of course, Truthseeker will have a feeble rebuttal to this post, as it still tries to convince you that the newsgroup is a nest of OSA agents. Sun Surfer will still persist in its contention that picketing is morally wrong. They have to do this. They are ordered to post here by their controllers higher up.
Fortunately, I doubt too many newbies will be convinced by their weak arguments, which usually devolve into petty ad hominem attacks two postings into a thread. When you can't produce content, retreat to the gradeschool sandbox! Dig it, they actually paid money to learn to communicate at this level!
Well, do some research. Think for yourself while you're still allowed to.
