hello, I am currently on an anti-depressant (paxil) due to anxiety attacks. I have found that after taking this for 5 weeks, I'm not as debilitated by the anxiety as I used to be and can concentrate better.
I'm failing to see where exactly the harm is in taking this medication. In fact prozac saved a good friend of mine from depression and potential suicide. In short, it saved her life. Should a person wish to get off the medication, the person should be weaned off rather than dropping it cold. This is done in consultation with the prescribing doctor.
(This explanation is for the people who have been posting about the "evils" of Prozac):
Prozac and paxil are SSRI's, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It blocks the reuptake of serotonin to the sending neuron, and forces the receiving neuron to release the seratonin to the next neuron. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter which promotes the release of endorphins. A lack of this in a person results in anxiety and depression.
It appears some people are saying flat assertions without the wherewithal to verify them when demeaning Eli Lilly or its products.
Thank you.
