Hi, I am just starting my research on scientology, and have a few questions... being that I have heard mostly negative things about it, I would like to hear the "other side of the story".
At this time, I am not - in the least - favourable towards Scientology, I must warn you. Why? Because of the horrible things I have heard, and which seem to be confirmed with pride even by Scientologist's.
1> What is all of this about the Scientologist's being a religion that costs a lot of money?
2> What is all of this "superman" talk? Is that directly from Nietzche, or did he get that from Hitler?
3> With question 2 in mind, and with the sayings of Jesus against the Pharisee's in mind... it seems glaringly obvious that Scientology is just another vanity religion. It is embarrasing, even to realize that people could be so blatantly conceited. Does this just not occur to the Scientologist's? Do the Scientologist's just ignore this?
4> Scientology seems to be saying it has some sort of Christian beliefs, by the symbol I see on their local "church". But, from what I have heard and seen over the years, it speaks nothing of these "ties", what is the situation here? Are they another religion completely, or are they within the jurisdiction of the church?
5> Do Scientologist's really believe Hubbard is God?
6> Is Tom Cruise the best and only example of a Scientologist?
Like some of his movies, be geez.
7> The court cases. Why does Scientology attack everyone with lawsuits? Is this the extent of their "power"?
8> Didn't Hubbard say that he was going to start a religion to make a bunch of money?
9> Didn't Hubbard have previous ties with Aleister Crowley and the Millenial Dawn?
10> If Scientology is a "true" religion, then why is it that they can't control public opinion? Or, where is their proof?
11> Christianity appealed to those who were poor and 'not wise' in the world. Again, I don't see a lot of poor people turning to Hubbard, so what is their claim to these things?
12> Is Scientology a threat? They seem to have a lot of dangerous and illegal rules and regulations which they are all too willing to carry out. Like the Nazi's and Communist's. If Scientology is on the up and up, then why do they not deal with their problems directly and honestly? Instead, they seem obsessed with secrecy and the courts.
13> What has Scientology put back into the community?
Those are my primary questions. Frankly, I will be surprised if they will be answered with any sort of tolerance by Scientologist's. Nevertheless, they are there, and I am willing to listen to their replies.
I say "their" because I realize... er, am coming to the conclusion, that this ng, like so many other obnoxious group's ngs have very few Scientologist's left to "defend" their beliefs or expound apon their beliefs in the least.
If I am partly motivated by the desire to "get the goods" on them, and this seems obvious to the more astute reader, then realize that this does not mean my questions and statements are not - therefore - insincere.
Hopefully, I won't get too many angry ramblings.
Mitch
