Thank you for posting this, Tilman. This is a very interesting development as it is a graphic example of Scientology interference in psychiatric cases that gain public notoriety. I will offer some personal comments on this.
Rodney Yoder has skillfully positioned himself as a 'psychiatric prisoner.' Yoder, in addition to beating up some women, has made very serious threats to a number of public officials and others. He has artfully used the courts and the media to put himself before the public in Illinois. This did not go unnoticed by Chicago's resident covert OSA agent, Randy Kretchmar.
Randy Kretchmar is a very clever individual. He has served as a covert OSA agent in the chicago area for at least a decade. The OSA is the Office of Special Affairs, a department within Scientology that spies upon and works to silence former members and critics of Scientology. He is not believed to be actually on Scientology's payroll. HIs wife finances his scientology activities. Kretchmar's wife is Cheryl Berman who is very big in the advertising industry. Berman is the head of the Creative Division in the Leo Burnett Co. a biggie in advertising that has such accounts as Hallmark, Disney, and (surprise) the Eli Lilly prozac mass marketing account. Cheryl Berman makes very big money and is a Patron Meritorius, a scientology designation for someone who has contributed over $250,000 to the IAS (International Association of Scientologists) 'War chest.' Insiders estimate that she has given one million dollars to the 'War chest.' She and Randy were big Reed Slatkin investors and are listed under the Kretchmar name.
Randy Kretchmar, apparently has never actually had a public job. He was heavily involved in the harassment campaign that resulted in the bankruptcy and closing of CAN ( Cult Awareness Network). What is especially despicable about Kretchmar is typical of scientology operation. He got others to do his front work for him. The late Greg Bashaw was a scientologist who was out in front with harassments against CAN and those of us with CAN did not know at the time that Kretchmar was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Greg Bashaw worked as a copywriter and Assoc. Producer under Cheryl Berman at the Leo Burnett Co. He won several awards for work on Hallmark and commercials. He was very talented in this work. At CAN we did not know at that time that Greg Bashaw worked at Leo Burnett and we were puzzled as how he could take a lot of time off from work for anti-CAN activities. But we didn't know where he worked and kind of assumed that he worked for Scientology. I discovered a year after CAN closed that he worked at Leo burnett. He lived only 2-3 miles the CAN office and it was assumed that this was deliberate. We were wrong on that as it turns out that he was there before CAN opened its closed office in Barrington, IL. We did know a bit about Kretchmar and only accidently found about about his wife, Cheryl Berman. I think that it is obvious that she was very generous with giving Greg Bashaw time off from work to front for Randy.
Some interesting and disturbing things have unfolded about Randy Kretchmar since CAN closed. One thing particular that disturbed me is that he sent around a DA ( Dead Agent) pack on me with Greg Bashaw's address on it along with a phoney name. This was sent around to names and addresses in the CAN confidential files...names and addresses of people who had called CAN for info on scientology. We now believe that Kretchmar got those names and addresses from the CAN spy, Jolie steckart. I blamed and held a lot of animosity toward's Greg for this only to discover that Kretchmar was responsible for this and had brazenly and cowardly used Greg's address. I don't think that Greg knew about it. I confronted Greg about it when he came to where I worked with my band. He denied sending around the DA pack but he was so cocky about his denial that I assumed he was lying. I now feel that he was telling the truth or partially so. I have been able to connect Kretchmar to stuff that was sent to me by another chicago scientologist and it's possible that that indiviual is innocent of this.
Kretchmar gloated and told me in an email that the happiest day in his life was the day that CAN closed. He has since moved on the further Scientoloogy's anti-psychiatry agenda and he has been very active in covertly supplying people in the malpractice industry with anti-psychiatry stuff put out by Scientology's anti-psychiatry front group, the CCHR or Citizens Commission on Human rights.
Kretchmar was very active with the CCHR in distributing anti-Prozac literature and propaganda.
Someone positioned within the psychiatric community is covertly supplying internal psychiatric information to the CCHR. Troublesome psychiatric cases often are written up and distributed internally for peer review. Criminal cases where an individual comitted a crime and had been taking Prozac were sought out and information provided to the CCHR
Randy Kretchmar works covertly with Fred Baugham, a pediatrician who makes good money as an anti-psychiatry shill. He testifies as an expert witness against psychiatry and specializes in anti-Ritalin testimony. Kretchmar, I believe, sets Baugham up with good leads and connects them. He also supplies attorneys with anti-psychiatry stuff and malpractice tricks on how to select juries ( try to get alternative health people & chiropractors etc. because they hate medical professionals). How to interject jokes demeaning psychiatry into the proceedings etc.
Some bizarre turns of events took place within recent years that involved Kretchmar and/or his wife one way or another. The Leo Burnett Co. took on the Eli Lilly Prozac mass marketing account and his wife Cheryl Berman is head of the Creative Division which works up the commercials. Greg Bashaw was working in her division and the Church of Scientology is believed to have ordered him or implied very strongly that he should quit working there. He mentioned this to a co-worker. I would asume the Berman was given a pass on this as she was a big donor to the scientology ' War chest'. and to have her quit would be cutting off this generous money source. Greg Bashaw did quit in 1997 and went to work at Foote, Cone and Belding, another prestigious advertising firm.
Tragically, Greg Bashw committed suicide in June of last year, 2001. He stated before his death that Scientology and bankrupted him and had destroyed his mind. He told his family that he would be the next Lisa McPherson. He went to Scientology headquarters in Clearwater, Florida and was turned away. Not one Scientology associate or staff member lifted a finger to help Greg Bashaw.
Randy Kretchmar, meanwhile, has gone to law school and in the fall of last year, 2001, received his law degree and passes the Bar. He is aware of the Rodney Yoder case and offers himself to Yoder, pro bono. In other words, his wife Cheryl Berman is financing this Rodney Yoder showdown. Randy jumped right into it and lined up some Chicago scientologists as Rodney Yoder supporters.
The main Yoder supporter is a guy named John Prior and I initially assumed that he was a scientologist. But I was wrong as he, in fact, is a sincere Christian who believes in what he is doing. He is, of course, being callously used by Randy Kretchmar and his bogus Rodney Yoder supporters.
Rodney Yoder may have a genuine case for release but based on the actions he has done and the threats that he has made any ruling body or official would think twice about releasing him.
Randy Kretchmar's only interest in this really is to further the malevolent Church of Scientology's insane anti-psychiatry agenda. Meanwhile the Eli Lillly Co. goes on blissfully oblivious to the Scientology connections and machinations within the Leo Burnett Co. Apparently, the Leo Burnett Co,.is unaware of them as well.

MAN CONFINED AT MENTAL HOSPITAL DEMANDS NEW JUDGE FOR HEARING
CURRENT JUDGE WAS ONCE A PROSECUTOR WHO WANTED DEFENDANT COMMITTED
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch 6.8.2002
A prosecutor in Illinois who years ago sought to have Rodney Yoder committed to a mental institution should not be the judge who presides at a hearing that will determine whether Yoder remains at a mental health center, Yoder's attorney argued Monday.
Yoder's lawyer, S. Randy Kretchmar, said fairness required that a judge other than William A. Schuwerk Jr. preside at the hearing.
Schuwerk was a Randolph County prosecutor when he represented the state in 1982 on a petition to commit Yoder to the mental health center in Chester, Ill.
Yoder's situation has attracted international interest. He has been held at the center against his wishes since June 26, 1991, when he completed a prison term for hitting a former wife. Illinois officials contend that Yoder is a violent person who is a danger to himself and others.
Yoder has refused to be treated and is expected to contend at the hearing that mental illness does not exist. During his confinement, he has never been examined by a mental health professional who was not paid by the state.
Kretchmar argued in Chester before Circuit Judge Lloyd A. Karmeier of Nashville that Schuwerk, a 20th Judicial District associate judge, is "not an impartial, unbiased individual" for a case that involves Yoder.
"I think Judge Schuwerk has indicated by his comments that he believes that if someone is in a mental institution, there must be some reason for him to be there," Kretchmar said. He said Schuwerk had tolerated an atmosphere in the courtroom of disrespect for Yoder and said in the courtroom before a hearing in December that "even (famed criminal lawyer) Melvin Belli couldn't represent" Yoder.
The implication, Kretchmar said, was that Yoder could not possibly win his freedom.
Michael Burke, Randolph County assistant state's attorney, said there was no need to take Schuwerk off the case. He said it has been more than 20 years since Schuwerk represented the state and sought to have Yoder committed.
"There is no evidence at all that Judge Schuwerk would be anything but impartial," said Burke, also a veteran of numerous commitment proceedings involving Yoder. In fact, Burke said, Schuwerk "would handle this case just as any other judge of this circuit would."
Yoder alleges that his commitment is due to a vendetta against him by Stephen Hardy, a former director of the mental health center.
Yoder won a lawsuit against Hardy for rights violations during an earlier prison sentence when Hardy was the warden of the prison where Yoder was held.
Yoder maintains that there is no scientific evidence of the existence of mental illness. He contends that it is a fiction used by some members of society to control others.
Karmeier allowed the lawyers several weeks to submit additional evidence before he decides whether the case should go to a judge other than Schuwerk.
Some 2,900 people were committed involuntarily to the state's 10 mental health hospitals last year. The average length of commitment at Chester is one year and three months, said Tom Green, a spokesman for the Department of Human Services.
