This is great. Thanks. I am going to tell all my friends to buy a copy. It would also be a great thing to send Katie Couric/Dateline, who wouldn't go there with Tom Cruise.

Razor article cuts Church of Scientology too deep
The Church of Scientology isn't happy with Razor magazine. Lloyd Grove at the New York Daily News reports that officials are outraged at an article in the magazine's latest issue criticizing the religion, which counts Hollywood heavyweights Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its members. The article, entitled "The Curse of Scientology – Lawsuits, Death and Finance," includes a report on the mysterious death of church member Lisa McPherson. "Imagine a church so dangerous you must sign a release form before you can receive its spiritual assistance," states the article, written by David S. Touretzky and Peter Alexander. A spokeswoman from the church has asked the magazine to stop promoting the article on its web site until she has a chance to discuss the contents with either Razor's editor-in-chief or publisher. So far, the two parties have yet to talk.

Thank you very much for your article exposing another facet of the secretive "Church" of Scientology! It is important in these times to strip away the facade of religiousity that this predatory cult lurks behind, as they're currently scrambling to acquire public funding for many of their phony and useless front groups. Scientologist Tom Cruise has reportedly been schmoozing with the Bush White House for Federal support of their "study tech," which would introduce children to L. Ron Hubbard's junk science in public schools. Cruise is also pushing the potentially health-threatening "purification rundown" to New York firefighters, and the cult's useless "drug rehab" front group, Narconon, is being promoted to various state assemblies as a viable treatment for prisoners.
On this 40th anniversary of the Jonestown massacre, it is vital to remember that there are still destructive, predatory cults out there seeking the vulnerable, innocent and gullible. It is especially important for elected officials to realize that, when you lie down with the wealthy Scientology organization, you get up covered in imaginary space cooties. There is a saying amongst critics of Scientology, "It really is worse than you can imagine." This is quite true, as a little online research will reveal.
You will undoubtedly be deluged by a flood of nearly identical letters from "individual" Scientologists, all whining about religious bigotry and intolerance. Let me state this clearly; critics of Scientology do not object to the beliefs of Scientology, silly as they are. We object to the actions of the organization; unneccesary early death from treatable illness, the abuse of members and those who speak out against this treatment, the destruction of families, life savings, the suicides, and fraudulent practices. Scientology has a fifty year history of antisocial behavior which has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with money and power. How many churches have armed compounds such as Gold Base in Hemet, California? How many churches have slimed into a community under a false identity like Scientology did in Clearwater, Florida? How many churches have prison camps, paramilitary forces, like Scientology's Rehabilitation Project Force and their toy Navy, the Sea Organization?
Dr. Dave Touretzky has put up an excellent website outlining the Study Tech at www.studytech.org Historian Chris Owen's sites address L. Ron Hubbard's true Navy record at www.ronthewarhero.org and also their dangerously useless drug rehab program at www.narconon-exposed.org
For an overview of the Scientology organization, www.xenu.net is an excellent start. Of course, the curious should also visit Scientology's own websites for a comparison. www.scientology.org is their main site, but the site they maintain on their "enemies," such as myself and Dr. Touretzky, are most revealing. That can be viewed at http://religiousfreedomwatch.com/extremists/index.html
I have purchased several copies of this month's issue and intend to spread them around where they'll do the most good. Thank you for your courage in publishing this article. You follow in the footsteps of other brave publishers and writers who have dared to take on this totalitarian monolith, such as Paulette Cooper and Time Magazine. Both wrote exposes critical of the Scientology organization, and suffered the consequences. Back before the internet, critics were more easily intimidated and silenced. Today, the world watches Scientology's every move. Congratulations on an excellent article, and your courage in printing it!

To: Editor of Razor Magazine From:ToryChristman November 20, 1003 X-Scientologist after 30 years "in" Re: "Curse of Scientology"
Dear Sir,
Hi :) My name is Tory Christman and I was in Scientology for 30 years. I cannot thank you enough for the excellent article you have this month on Scientology and it's abuses.
I joined Scientology believing all that they said, in 1969. I joined their Sea Organization, and shortly after I was told I had to get off of all of the medication I was taking for Epilepsy. Due to their Medical Malpractices, I very well may have died, having numerous Grand Mal Seizures, with they telling me I wasn't being responsible enough. Thankfully, my Mother insisted I not listen to them and continue my medication.
I struggled literally for years, fighting trying to fix myself, convinced Hubbard was right, that I was creating this condition. It wasn't until I got to their top levels that I began to see the light. Even then, I ended up joining a very top secret Internet mafia their "Office of Special Affairs" had created, to try to stop these "Critics" spoken about in this article. I was out setting up phony accounts, believing my friend and auditor that this was all for the good of Scientology. Finally I got up the courage to go onto the Internet and SEE what they were actually doing. When I saw that all they were doing is trying to STOP free Speech, I quit this group, and shortly after quit Scientology altogether.
It is a very insidious group in that it is very much like the Truman Show, where one ~cannot~ see the walls. Also, I was one of the many idiots who wrote letters to people like you, telling you how wrong you are for publishing this, how the people who wrote it are merely "Religious bigots", and "They never even knew Lisa". I did, and I was sure I was right. The saddest FACT is I had never even spoken with ~one~ of these people, nor had I ever read the articles! One is just "briefed" about it, by OSA, and asked to write a letter, and often one is even given a script about it.
I can say I didn't know Lisa, but I know me, and I know the medical malpractice I suffered for years and years and years. If I can help even one person be saved from their harm, I will be happy. By publishing this article, you no doubt have done far more good than you can imagine.
Thank you, and your staff,

Reports are coming in of Scientologists buying up all of a store's copies of the December/January "Curse of Scientology" issue of Razor to keep them out of the public's hands. (And a few critics are buying multiple copies to put them INTO peoples' hands!) This is a double issue, so it should be on the shelves for TWO MONTHS. Razor will happily send out more copies, if they know where to send them to. So here is something you can do to help:
You should be able to find Razor in the following places:
Walmart Tower Records Hastings Barnes & Noble Borders B.Dalton 7/11 stores
If you check these places and any one of them is sold out of Razor, write down the store's name, city, and street address and send this info to:
Timarie McClendon Newsstand Circulation Director RAZOR Magazine timarie@razormagazine.com
Let's make sure everyone gets a chance to buy Razor!
